Naton stood Raghad's office, scrubbed clean and ready to give his assessment of the situation. Despite the fact that the Healer gave him the all clear after handling the body on the beach, he still kept a desk between him and the Holder.
Raghad wasn't quite so worried about deceases. He was old and had already survived one Plague. "So, how did it went?"
Naton saw no reason to deliver their findings in any way other than just a straight forward presentation of the facts. "We found the ship. It is definitely run deep aground, probably because the sails were down and it was pushed hard into the sand. From what I could see from the outside, the ship is sound. Can't say what it looks like under the sand. It's listing to port, but we tied it off to make sure it doesn't tip completely on it's side. The crew never got off the ship. They seem to be all aboard, dead."
"It was a horrible sight, all those dead ones," Torwald added.
Raghad nodded. "Any idea what killed them? Based on my experience, even worst plagues leaves one or few alive."
"Can't say exactly. One body was found a distance from the ship. It looked to me he had been dead longer than the ship had been run aground, but I can't say for sure as I'm not a healer." That body was a mystery that rather irked Naton. It just didn't seem to fit. "All I can say for sure is no lifeboat seemed to have been launched, no crew seemed to have been alive, or at least in any shape, to steer the boat. There were no signs of fire or explosion. The only explanation I have is medical."
"The sails were lowered, they didn't even time to cut them loose or raise them, as they would had if it was a sudden storm. No storm brews that fast," Torwald said. "Gimme a sea chart and I can count their most likely route based on winds and sea currents from the past sevenday."
"That would certainly be helpful," Naton said with a nod toward Torwald. "But I have to say, sir, I don't think this is the kind of thing this Hold can handle right now."
"Alright, we certainly don't have anthing to pull that ship off from the beach," Raghad said. The tsunami had damaged their fishing fleet and Lady Breeze was not anywhere near. "Hall might have the resources but they were hit hard by the tsunami." Which meant turning the case to Lord Bryvin and possibly lose the change to salvage that ship. Presuming it wasn't contagious. Then Bryvin was welcome to have it.
The dolphineer nodded. They had their hands full of salvage! "The Hall will take all the man power we have. I can help the healers look for a cause of the illness, but beyond that, I should be devoted to salvaging what we can from your bay."
Raghad nodded. It was best solution, "Is that bluerider still around? I need to send an urgent message to the Lord Holder." If he wasn't, he could always send his flit.
"I can check as soon as we're done here." He might have gone back to the Weyr as soon as he was cleared. Naton was too busy scrubbing to notice.
"I can always send Wind Watcher, if he's left." Raghad said.
Naton nodded. "Are we done then?" If he ran, he might still catch him, if he were even around still.
"I can't see what else we could do," Raghad replied. "If there had been survivors, we might have been able to offer them help. But beached ship filled with bodies? Bryvin has more resources to deal with it."
"Yes, sir." It would be Lord Bryvin's problem now.
