Description: The tsunami strikes to Citrus Bay too but with less destructive force.
Location: Citrus Bay Hold
Date: month 12, day 20 of Turn 8
"Well, repairing and replacing will be costly," Raghad grunted, surveying the destruction tsunami had left in it's wake. Wind Watcher warbled his agreement from his master's shoulder. They had received the tsunami warning from a watchdragon and from firelizards. They had barely time to move people up to the hills before it hit. He was also worried about the fishcrafters out of on the sea, they had no way to know if they were alright. He could only hope that Lady Breeze, his pride and joy was undamaged. The ship was currently on a tithe- run to the Sunstone Hold.
The piers were as much as gone, swept away by the water. The ships and boats that had been docked at the Hold were now piles of timber scattered across the beach. The combined watchtower/lighthouse on a small island outside their port was badly damaged. The warehouses and craftshops at the beach had weathered the attack of the sea surprisingly well, although some of the older buildings had collapsed. The residential buildings were built farther away from shore and had escaped most of the tsunami. Those closest to the beach had been flooded but he could see no structual damage. It would take awhile before they received word from the cotholds along the shoreline.
"How about the head count? Did we lose any people?" he turned to his wife and staff.
For once Runnfreya was in a remarkably plain dress, tied to the front of it was a cream apron that was dirty with stains. Until her husband had called the meeting, Runnfreya had been working with the other women to clean up. "There are some dockhands missing. I spoke to their wives this morning. Our dolphineers are on search and rescue as we speak in case anyone was washed off the piers."
"Didn't they get the warning in time?" Raghad wondered.
"They were probably trying to save some wares," One of his sons said.
"That's just silly. Human life is always more valuable than some merchandise," Raghad grunted.
"Have you heard from Sunstone?" Runnfreya asked, wondering how the main Hold had fared during the storm. It was hard to guess how far the effect of the tsunami had reached.
"Not yet, I've sent messages. They are even farther away from Weyr than we are, so they shouldn't be affected any worse than we are," Raghad replied.
"And the Weyr?" she asked softly. They had heard preliminary things, gossip mostly, about the state of things at River Bluff.
"Based on what the passing sweeprider said, it's pretty bad out there," Raghad replied.
A boy ran to them. "A group of people are coming from Lokki's cothold! They are seeking shelter, the wave destroyed their main building!" He told them.
"Well, we better prepare to house some refugees," Raghad said. "Good thing we have experience." They had taken in the staff of Seacraft hall when it had been hit by hurricane.
Runnfreya walked over to her husband and pressed a kiss to his cheek, "I had better get down to the kitchens then and let the cook know we'll be needing extra. Send Wind Watcher if you need me."
"I will, my dear," Raghad replied fondly. She was a treasure for a wife.
Flashing her husband a quick, warm smile, Runnfreya swept out of the room, leaving Raghad to handle the rest of the meeting while she prepared for the latest batch of refugees.
Raghad returned his attention from her to the men around him.
"I think the islands and shoals outside our actually protected us from the worst. Based on the destruction of the watchtower, I say the killer wave used most of it energy before reaching the shore." Some one was droning on. Raghad felt a flash of irritation, because he couldn't say who it was from the voice only. On his younger days, he could recognize men from the way they breathed.
"People," he cut off the other man. "We have lot of work to do. Let's stop talking and get to the doing. I want estimate of the repair costs by tomorrow."
