**The Thread was flying at his face again. He put up his arms again; the Thread smacked into them again- and burrowed. It invaded his arms, twisted and dug down into his shoulders, through his chest, down into his stomach to explode out and sink into his thighs, and through them into Zeiranth, and both of them were screaming in agony until he gagged on filaments that burst from his throat into the open air-**
}:A'kua, wake up!:{
The redhead did, and simply lay in bed for a short while, catching his breath and heartily wishing that fecking nightmare would just _go away_. He was sick of seeing it when he slept. Even naps weren't safe. He really needed to tell the mindhealer about that. "What, Zei?" he wearily asked.
}:Mother says her rider really needs a friend right now.:{
That was enough to bring A'kua to full alertness and off the bed to mount up in minutes. Not bothering with straps, he directed Zeiranth to glide to Lissath's ledge.
Genna was pacing, her hands wringing in frustration. She had no idea how to feel. Happy? Excited? Frustrated? Angry? She'd have been excited and happy for sure if anyone had bothered to confer with her on this matter before it had all been decided. Right now she felt absolutely blind-sighted. Just how much of this was K'ran's doing? Surely he thought he was doing her a favor. And he was, really. But he was doing himself more of a favor and it felt wrong he hadn't discussed it first. Sure, if someone else had suggested the thing in conclave, she could get why he'd agree with it. But then she'd expected Saibra to have discussed things with her first before agreeing. No one seemed to care about her feelings in this. And she'd be leaving her home, her friends, her family! There were definitely a lot of feelings there. Especially with A'kua still recovering, her brother new the Weyr...
}: Zeiranth is here. :{ Lissath informed her, shaking Genna from her thoughts. Genna looked up, confused, until she realized what Lissath had done. She smiled a little. Her dragon always knew what she needed before she did.
"Hey," Genna said as she met A'kua at the ledge. "Thanks for coming."
The weyrling slid down Zeiranth's shoulder while the bronze gave his dam a proper greeting. "Not a problem. What's wrong? You look agitated."
"They're transferring me!" Genna didn't know how else to bring the news, so she just blurted it out in frustration. "I'm to go to River Bluff for Lissath's next clutch."
A'kua was surprised. Transferred? Just like that? On the one hand, that was good; Genna would be reunited with K'ran. On the other hand, all her friends here would miss her, and she might get homesick. On still another point, it was only for a clutch, right? That was less than a Turn. Good and bad all around. No wonder Genna was worked up. "When do you leave?" he asked quietly and with a hint of resignation.
"I don't know exactly, I think the exact details haven't been decided on yet," Genna shrugged. "It's only for one clutch and it's a great way to spend more time with K'ran, but I can't help but feel he arranged this behind my back, you know? It's my decision too."
A'kua frowned, putting his right hand on his hip. The suede of his half-fingered glove, worn even when napping now, snagged on his belt, but he didn't pay it any mind. "Do Weyrleaders even have that kind of authority?" he asked, genuinely curious. "A gold transfer sounds like it falls under the Weyrwoman's influence. So it could be her idea," he reasoned. "But you're right, you should've been given a choice."
"It's just so.. convenient, for K'ran," Genna said, though she now realized that indeed it was more likely the Weyrwomen's decision. But still.. he could have influenced the River Bluff Weyrwoman to suggest the swap to the others. "I mean, I'm happy to be closer to K'ran. But my whole life is here. My friends, my family. Karlin just moved here and can use some more guidance. I don't want to leave you behind after everything that happened..." she trailed off, indicating his Threadscores.
A'kua twitched and hoped his friend didn't notice, but with everything he had been teaching her about accurately reading people, she probably did. To try to deflect any questions, he said "I'll look after Karlin while you're gone. So will Firelloa and Lys if I ask, and so will the weyrlin'masters. He'll be fine. As for you, the transfer sounds temporary. I think you'll be okay. For now, meet me in the guard practice room in twenty minutes."
"Are you alright to practise?" Genna asked, a furrowing her brow in honest contemplation. She had caught the twitch, exactly the reason why she felt bad for leaving A'kua. He was trying to play it cool, like everything was alright, and she had thought she still had plenty of time to push through that and get him to open up about what he was feeling. Now it seemed like time was running out.
"It's just scars now. Twenty minutes," A'kua replied in a clipped tone, and mounted up on Zeiranth. As the young bronze took him back to the weyr, A'kua found he was glad no other rankers had been around to see that; he would've gotten a sharding harsh scolding. Not even an unranked bronzerider could give orders to a goldrider, even if they were friendly.
He was at the practice room in seventeen minutes, wearing his new riding jacket and boots, his gloves wrapped with spare cloth, and more around his midsection under the wherhides. He started laying out sparring mats while he waited.
Not much later, Genna appeared too, still seeming hesitant. She wasn't sure she really wanted to do this. If A'kua hurt himself in any way, that would be on her for agreeing to practise. "Did the Healers specifically clear you for sparring practise?" she asked, gloves still in one hand.
"Why do I need their permission?" A'kua snorted. "C'mon, get the gloves on. We're goin' full contact today. It'll make you feel better for a little while." He knew that from his own experiences.
Genna crossed her arms now, her expression stern and unwavering. There was a glimmer of the Genna that could reign in a lustfull Gold visible in the determination on her face. "Forget it then. I'm not going to help you hurt yourself."
The redhead put the last mat in place, straightening to give his friend a confused look. "Just because it's full contact doesn't necessarily mean I'm goin' to get hurt. I have paddin', and I know what I'm doin'." He stepped into the middle of the mats. "Look, if I was clear for Thread," and Ancients did he not want to be, "then I'm clear for this. It'll be fine. Let's practice your punches."
**That makes sense** Genna thought to herself a little sheepishly, before turning her gaze back on A'kua. "Sorry, I can be a bit overbearing when it comes to your well being, I guess," she offered in apology. If he was cleared for Thread, he surely could handle a little sparring with her. "Let's get to it then."
