R'axe reached up and ran his fingers through his hair before shaking out the shaggy blonde mane, causing a small shower of snow and water to rain down onto his shoulders as he walked through Jayth's weyrcouch. They had been on transportation duty. The last place he'd visited had been in the midst of a small snow storm and the snow fall at Dragonsfall wasn't any lighter.
}:I am going to rinse off.:{ Jayth told him, talons scraping against stone as he pushed off of the weyrledge to go to the Winter Lake.
"Yeah, I think I'll take a bath." He said out loud.
"Need help?"
The voice startled R'axe and his head snapped up, blue eyes widening as he took in the greenrider who was sitting at his table, a glass of R'axe's best wine dangling from his fingers.
"E'varyn," R'axe walked over to the table, "I've got to admit, you're the last person I expected to see."
E'varyn's lips twisted into a little grin, "Why?"
R'axe sat down opposite E'varyn at the table and grabbed the bottle of wine, "Oh, I don't know, because the last time we spoke to each other you told me that you never wanted to see me again." He brought the bottle to his lips.
The greenrider's facial expression sobered, "Yes, well, everyone makes mistakes, don't they?"
"Aye," R'axe looked up at E'varyn, studying the brunette's familiar features, ones that he'd memorized long ago, "but your mistake cost us the nine Turns we'd put into our relationship."
E'varyn licked his lips, and said in a soft voice, "For what it is worth, I am sorry. It was the biggest mistake I've ever made and it didn't take me long to realize it."
"Did you come all the way here to say that?"
"Yes, and to see if... If there was still a chance for... us."
R'axe pinched at the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger, "I don't know, E'varyn."
"Can you say that you don't love me still?" E'varyn set his glass of wine down, green eyes boring into R'axe's blue ones.
The bluerider sighed, "No, I can't say that I don't... I can't say that I do either. I've moved on since then, E'varyn, there are other people in my life." He thought of J'kri and Paetri.
E'varyn stood, swallowing past the dryness in his throat that wine couldn't quench, "Of course, I understand. I'm the one who... I'm the one who screwed us up." He rubbed at his cleanly shaven jaw, "Can I... Can I come see you again? Maybe we can see where things go?"
R'axe wasn't sure his heart was able to go through seeing E'varyn again, but he found himself saying, "Yes."
"Good," E'varyn breathed the word with relief, "I'll see you next restday?"
"Yes," R'axe stood, his eyes meeting E'varyn's, "but I can't promise anything, you know."
"I know." E'varyn wrung his hands together for a moment before reaching out and touching R'axe's arm tentatively, "Thank you, R'axe, you won't regret this. I'll see you soon."
R'axe nodded, saying nothing as he watched the greenrider, the only weyrmate he'd ever had, the first person he'd said "I love you" to, walk from the weyr.
