Wild Plannings

Writers: Nicole, Chelle
Date Posted: 3rd March 2006

Characters: Saralorn, E'rae
Description: They plan a hunting trip.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 4 of Turn 3

Saralorn was taking a moment's free time to take one of the better runners out on the trail. He was at a nice walk for the time being, taking in the beautiful surroundings, and as a cool breeze swept through the trees, he
noticed he was not alone on the trail.

A little ahead of him, a man, dressed mostly in black approached out of the thicket. As he got closer, Saralorn could see he had rider knots -- bluerider knots, and he was carrying a bow in his hand.

Saralorn's mouth twisted into a grin. "One of the weyrlings get on your last nerve?"

E'rae turned, head twisting toward the voice. When he saw someone coming down the trail, he immediately searched for knots. A candidate, eh? "Not quite. Actually, I don't have much contact with weyrlings these days.
Seems to me, I'm running into candidates all the time." He straightened out, to face the oncoming beastcrafter. "Can I help you?" His eyes were hard to read and it was clear he wasn't used to talking to people in such a setting.

"We're everywhere." He grinned. "As a new person to the Weyr, I feel like it's my duty to be nosy." At the second question, he shook his head. "Nah, I was just wondering what you were up to, really. It's not every day you see someone wandering around the woods with a bow, especially a dragonrider."

"Well, I wouldn't think it would be everyday. At least I hope not. After all, if anyone starts in on the territory about here, I'd likely lose half of the game." E'rae was very careful to watch for how many kills he made and he only hunted to supplement the Weyr's stocks, as some of the other riders did. It gave him a chance to keep his skills honed as well.

Saralorn nodded. "Have you ever run into any whersport around here? Or large felines? I've heard a lot of stories about people hunting them, I thought it might be fun."

"Large felines yes, whersports, not yet. And no, it isn't fun. Matter of fact since they tend to be in groups, it can be a bit scary to find one, knowing there is another nearby. Aye, I really don't have a fondness for
them even if they do have good pelts." E'rae frowned, wondering what the candidate was getting at

"I could imagine," he nodded. "Sorry if I'm asking too many questions. I've always been interested in hunting, and would definitely want to go if you ever -- you know -- wanted some company or anything."

The bluerider had to think about that. He'd always been sort of a loner figure. Hunting in pairs had never occurred to him. Still, it would be safer, even though he did have Leith. Perhaps... Well it wouldn't hurt to
try. "I'll take you up on your offer. However, you probably have more of a schedule to keep than me."

Saralorn paused a moment to think. "I have restdays coming up on the seventh and the fourteenth, if either of those dates are good for you. Though, I'll admit, it's been a long time since I've shot a bow, so I'm a bit rusty."

"Well, on the seventh, we can meet in the practice yard and maybe see just how rusty you are." E'rae mentally told himself to remember.

"I'll be there," he smiled. "I'll look forward to it, and thank you for the opportunity..." Saralorn searched for the man's name.

"Sure." E'rae nodded, then headed off back to the Weyr. He had hides to skin and maybe he could get a few marks for them, at least. The bluerider was planning on buying wherry feathers to fletch his arrows with, after all.
