K'mai plopped down in the sand next to the candidate. "So, are you excited for the Hatching?"
"Of course!" Sherevair grinned. "Of course, I understand that my chances of actually Impressing this time are small. I suppose you used to feel the same way standing for clutches that size. I've just been spoiled with thirty egg or more clutches I guess."
"You have as much chance as anyone else. Better, I think. Anyone as nice as you _must_ be appealing to a dragonette," K'mai said.
"Oh, I don't know if I'm all that nice," the candidate said with a slight blush. He hadn't expected the compliment.
The bluerider smiled at him. "You're one of the nicest people in the Weyr. Almost as nice as me," he teased.
"I don't know if that's possible, K'mai," Sherevair grinned. "No one can be as nice as you."
"If you try really hard, you just might make it."
"I just want a dragon," the candidate sighed wistfully. "Do you really think one will like me? I mean, maybe not this time, but sometime?"
"Sure!" K'mai gave him a pat on the back. "Your little blue will find you."
"You think it will be blue?" Sherevair asked, a slight blush creeping up his cheeks. Did he _know_? "Why would you say that?"
K'mai laughed. "Because blues are the best, of course!" Although he did have suspicions . . .
"Oh, well, yes, I suppose they are. Of course they are," he said giving the rider a shy smile. "I suppose a blue would be nice."
"You suppose!" The bluerider stared at him in mock surprise. "Do I need to explain to you the merits of a blue dragon?"
"Sure," Sherevair beamed, "tell me what is so good about a blue dragon."
"Alright!" K'mai said with a chuckle. "They're fast and strong, dependable, smart and handsome. They have pride and confidence, but without the ego of a bronze. Being a bluerider is great, too. I think we have the most fun of any of the riders. We get to enjoy both women and men, and no matter which green our dragon catches, we're always happy with who we wake up with."
"It sounds nice," the candidate chuckled. "I think you sold me."
K'mai smiled. "Wonderful! I expect to see you walking off the sands with an adorable blue."
"Perhaps," Sherevair said again with a sidelong glance. Shards, but it wouldn't be so bad if he did...
