Rhosyn was already sitting at her place at the table. She and K'ran had
spoken about what had happened at length the night before once Lanniya,
Anaeryth, and their guests were settled and the chaos had died down. Lanniya
would be arriving later. For now, she looked across the table at the other
faces there-K'ran, Lenala, and K'sedel. Once again, she felt herself
becoming irritated for having to be here to discuss this. Still, it had to
be done so best to get it over with.

"Well, we're here because Lanniya timed it with Anaeryth. Not only did she
ignore the warnings from the weyrlingmasters as well as the dangers to
Anaeryth and herself, but she also knowingly risked the future of River
Bluff Weyr. This was also after she showed an impulsiveness during her
between training and she and I had spoken about that, agreeing that she
would not take such impulsive action again." Rhosyn took a breath and tried
to keep a calm tone, belying her upset at the situation. "Thankfully, the
pair did return, albeit a bit late. But now we are going to have to come up
with a suitable reason for her to suddenly appear with her parents who
everyone knows were dead because timing is not something we want everyone
knowing about. This also includes her own sister, who is a greenrider, and
thus is not aware of that particular draconic ability."

"Anaeryth was injured. It's not serious and Y'gel and I will monitor her
recovery, but it could have been much worse." She looked over at K'ran. As
Lanniya's wingleader, this fell to her. With the timing implications to the
Weyr, however, it also included him as Weyrleader. "K'sedel, I want her to
go back to the weyrling wing. I don't know for how long but she has shown
that she is not mature enough to take care of herself and her dragon or be a
part of a wing. She's also going to lose her flight privileges. She does not
go out of this Weyr without permission and a chaperone until she's proven
she's not going to endanger her dragon. Any other punishment is up to you."

Y'gel nodded his agreement with Rhosyn's assessment of Anaeryth but
didn't do more than shift in his chair.

Lenala didn't say anything. She simply had nothing to say. She did agree
with Rhosyn.

K'sedel drew in a breath before replying. "That little lot is the least of
it. I'd be tempted to give her junior weyrling knots again for a while if it
wouldn't be too much to explain. I'd suggest we make her a weyrlingstaff
assistant, and also have both Orlaith and Vilarth make sure that Anaeryth
make sure that she knows what restrictions are on her rider, and that as far
as she's concerned the weyrling wing is where she belongs for now." He
paused. "I'll be honest, I don't like it, but with the stunt she pulled, we
have to do something, and it has to be remembered by both rider and dragon."
Nobody would think much of weyrlingstaff assistants attending extra
lectures with the staff. It was necessary so that they could handle helping
to instruct other weyrlings, or deal with the administration related to it.
"It's one way we can have her review going /between/ and timing several
times."

"Lenala and I will make sure that Anaeryth knows where she can and can't go."
Placing her hand flat on the table, Rhosyn leaned back, frowning. "So
that's decided. K'ran, what are we going to tell these people?
Obviously her parents know about it too- even though they are
nonriders. We'll need to meet with them eventually and make sure they
understand to keep their mouths closed." Grasping at straws, the
goldrider was trying to think. **Maybe we can just keep telling
everyone it's her Aunt and Uncle come to visit from the North. That
won't work for the sister, though. The sister doesn't remember them,
though, right?**

"They seem like reasonable people," Lenala said, "I'm sure they
understand to keep quiet if we explain the situation to them. Hiding
their identity won't work on long term. Just say they've been stranded
in North or on desolate island," she continued, making a vague
gesture. "Yeah, like nobody ever listen that famous ballad about how
the previous Pass started," she added with quiet, sarcastic voice.

"I like the idea of the weyrlingstaff assistant role, since it gets
her that extra instruction and forcing her to keep a careful eye on
the behavior of the weyrlings might make her consider how her own
stunts come across," K'ran said.

As for the issue of the parents, he thought that would depend on
exactly how much they understood of what had happened. "I suppose we
should talk to Lanniya first about what she's told them, then
reinforce or change that story with them as soon as possible," K'ran said.

That sounded reasonable enough. Hopefully, it would be that easy. Frowning
at Lenala's obvious sarcasm in the wake of the serious situation, the Weyrwoman
didn't comment on it. **Maybe let them know if they don't keep quiet, I will strand them on a desolate island?** Feeling rather prickly, she determined maybe
it was best to just get it over with. "Fair enough, then. Are we ready for
Lanniya to come in? Any last thoughts?"

"No last thoughts," the Weyrleader said, half-closing his eyes as he
reached out to Rogueth.

Y'gel simply remained silent during the whole conversation. His entire
concern rested on the gold dragon who had performed wonderfully
through the stress she'd been under. It was still a wonder to him how
she hadn't been hurt worse than she had. Privately he thought he'd
likely speak with K'sedel about a one on one training for the young
rider on dragonhealing and just the kind of injury that could have happened.

}:Anaeryth, your rider can come in now,:{ Rogueth told the younger
gold, knowing the rider could overhear.

}: She was waiting. :{ Both Anaeryth and Lanniya had slept deeply
after quietly telling her grandparents her fabricated tale. She had
slept in her grandparent's quarters and Anaeryth had soaked in the
attention of a few bronzes and browns before she too submitted to her
exhaustion. When she woke, she knew it was time to pay the Harper.

At the summons, Lanniya turned to look at her parents. "They want to
see us. " She rose, took a breath, and opened the door to the
conference room, stepping in with her parents behind her.

When the doors were shut, the Weyrwoman took a look at them, paying particular
attention to Lanniya's face. Watching her parents, she wondered what
they knew and what they didn't know, supposing they would find out
shortly. Judging it best to handle the issue with her parents first,
Rhosyn allowed K'ran to start the proceedings. They would be dismissed
so Lanniya's punishment wouldn't be discussed in front of them.

"Lanniya, welcome," K'ran said, opening the conversation on a polite
and non-angry level, since her family was present. "Please, introduce
us to your family."

He'd find out what they knew, instruct them on the cover story, and
then handle Lanniya herself later.

Lenala didn't say anything but she did give Lanniya an encouraging
smile. She find it hard to stay angry at her, she was too relieved to
see her back safely.

K'sedel kept his face neutral. He could understand wanting to see
loved ones again. There were times when he'd have given anything to go
back to Thayan Peak and save his weyrmate and young child from the
quake, but he'd known it couldn't be done.

Y'gel kept an encouraging look on his face in case she looked in his
direction. He smiled and nodded at the man and woman with her.

Now that all the eyes were on her, Lanniya felt her stomach tighten.
She swallowed, felt the warm hand of her mother on her lower back and
took a breath, comforted. "This is my mother, Kandreya. " Her mother
moved to take her hand and squeezed lightly; Lanniya squeezed back as
she gestured to her father with her free hand. " This is my father,
Pierlin. They're both Traders." She lifted her chin, about to tell all
of them how not sorry she was, but her father saw the stubborn glint
and quickly spoke up, stepping forward.

"Lanniya told us what she did was wrong." He frowned. "She explained
to us the importance of keeping what happened secret, even to our
other family members. I swear upon my life and on my craft that we
will say nothing to put her or the Weyr in any danger." He turned to
smile at Lanniya, his eyes gentle. "The Weyrs took in our daughters
when we could not be there and we will always be thankful for that."

Kandreya next spoke, her voice firm. "We know what she did was foolish
and it put her dragon at risk. She'll take what punishment the Weyr
has to give her and we will support it." At that Lanniya's chin
dropped a little and she shifted on her feet.

It was very well-spoken of the parents, and K'ran was impressed by
their forthrightness and willingness to see her punished, even though
she had saved them and was their child.

"What cover story will you be using? That you were washed up elsewhere
after the shipwreck?" he asked.

Lanniya looked at the assembled Weyrfolk and nodded before her parents
spoke. "I thought of that. I mean, to explain why they were here.
There was a current and they could have been, you know, more up north,
so they could have been up there trying to get back here. " She
glanced at her parents. "I didn't think I would mess up on the times,"
she admitted. "I thought I would be back just a little after I left
and," she gave a little shrug. "I didn't think anyone would notice I was gone."
