K'ran

After all the dragonets had Impressed and the Weyrlingmasters had the
new pairs in hand, Rhosyn checked to see the candidates left Standing
had been spoken to as well. Some of the people were still in the
Stands talking to each other, celebrating relatives they knew that had
Impressed. Others had already started to head to the Dining Cavern,
anticipating that the Hatching feast would be held there like normal.
Seeing Solieira's staff directing them towards the Weyr bowl, she knew
the Headwoman had things in hand.

They were there to herd the folk to the place near the River set up
with tables, food, beverages, and a dancing square. There were glow
baskets lining the path to get them there where the hanging lanterns
easily gave the place a fanciful light. "K'ran, let's just go out
through the entrance to the Grounds here." Orlaith had already headed
out to feed and rest after the long time spent guarding eggs. Rhosyn
would see to her later in the evening once their guests had bedded
down.

"Lead the way, Weyrwoman," he said, standing up and straightening out
his tunic. "I look forward to seeing how the guests react to the
amazing setup the Headwoman has put together."

"Me too. It'll be a first, but why not use our weather to our advantage
and have it outside for once? If it goes well, we might do it again." Taking
his hand, she walked companionably beside him down the Stands and onto
the Sands. Heading past the way towards the weyrling barracks, she led him
out directly into the Bowl through the dragons' entrance. The night was warm
and all the people walking out made noise.

Before too long, though, they reached the tables. Rhosyn pointed toward the
raised table. No one could eat before they took their seats. Suddenly, she
was rather hungry anyway. "This does look really special..."

"I think it was an inspired idea. It's not something many Weyrs could
pull off, but the layout right on the waters and the weather make it
perfect," he agreed. Then a thought hit him. "We can just sit and eat? No
speeches?"

"I don't bother with that unless there's something really important to be said.
If you want to make one, you can." She shrugged, smiling. "Both our Weyrfolk
and the folk we're beholden to have had some rough patches in the last few
months. Most of these people could do with a little relaxing and celebrating.
Then again, this is the first time most of them will have seen you and might be
the last for awhile so if you want to speak, go ahead. We Weyrfolk are a more
informal lot. Leave the speeches and songs to the harpers." The last few times
she had spoken in public were to announce bad tidings. Rhosyn had no desire
to do it again for some time.

"I'm not much one for getting up in front of people, I just wasn't
sure what River Bluff's tradition was." When he'd been at Ista, the
Weyrleader at the time was very formally-minded, and he'd always made
time to formally address the Weyr. The idea had made K'ran nervous.

As they walked towards the raised table, many of the folk who had
already arrived clapped and cheered the Weyrleaders. That had been
something else that hadn't happened in some time and Rhosyn savored
the moment. Holding K'ran's hand as they walked, she took her seat
when they got up there and watched as he took his. "I think they've
decided they like you for now. Now comes one of the best parts-we get
to dance and eat all we want to." The next morning might not be the
easiest since they had Threadfall to fly, so Rhosyn was going to watch
her wine intake for once.

"I'm looking forward to the meal. The smells from over here are
incredible. I don't remember other Hatching feasts being this
amazing," K'ran said. Or maybe it was just more overwhelming when it
was _yours_.

A bemused smile on her face as some of her Weyrleader's exuberance
rubbed off on her, the Weyrwoman quietly felt for her queen's mind as
food was brought and set out before them. When she took a bite of the
roll, other people at other tables began to eat. **Well done love.
Today was a good memory for all of us.**

}:My belly is full. I will rest now with Rogueth. He is a good mate.
Tomorrow I will outfly him though:{ Orlaith was ready to lead the wing
again after so many months. Rhosyn wasn't quite sure yet, but she
wisely left the point alone for the moment.

"I don't think I have ever been unhappy with the food here." Other
things, maybe. "Here you need to try some of those tubers with herbs
and cream." In the back of her mind, she was thinking about how
pleased she was and she wondered how long it would last. Her eyes
glanced over to K'ran, hoping for quite awhile.

K'ran dug into the meal with gusto, appreciating the bounty of food.
"You're right," he said when he tried the item she'd recommended.
"These are fantastic."

"After this, we get to greet everyone and play hosts. Then the dancing
starts so eat enough for the energy you'll need." Of course she had
planned to take full advantage of the dancing.
