K'ran

The anticipation of the Hatching was crackling through the air, making
the restday a little more lively than the others. The bets were
beginning to fly about the color breakdown, the lucky Candidates who
would Impress, even a few about any disasters. K'ran pretended he
didn't hear those, even as he had put down an eighth-mark on a green
hatching first.

It was while he was in his weyr, re-arranging items on the shelves,
that Rogueth reached out to him. }:Orlaith tells me they are coming
now.:{

K'ran reacted by reaching into his closet for the new finery hanging
there. Rhosyn had been right to have him get some in the Weyr colors.
He hadn't had a chance to wear it yet, so it felt strange as he slipped
it on. He tugged on the tunic to get it looking right. By the time he
was done, the humming was audible.

**Have you made sure...**

}:Yes, one of the dragons is dispatched to get your clutchsib,:{ the
bronze confirmed.

K'ran reached for the item he'd gotten as a Hatching gift for Rhosyn,
wrapping it in orange silk.

"Allright Weyrleader, the big day is here," the Weyrwoman announced
as she walked through the entrance into the living quarters. Seeing K'ran
already dressed, she approved of the outfit. The weavers had done a fine
job. Knowing Dragonsfall's hatching garb was a lot thicker than River Bluff's,
she judged the fabric to be fine and breathable-a good choice. "People are
coming in now, but I wanted to go in together."

"I look forward to escorting you in. After all, you and Orlaith are
the stars of the show," he said courteously.

K'ran extended the small package to her. "And before I forget, your
Hatching gift, Weyrwoman."

Taking it, Rhosyn was a bit surprised. She hadn't expected anything of him
so the package made her feel a bit guilty. It was a very nice gesture though.
K'ran was proving himself quite thoughtful. Opening the ribbons, she pulled
back the wrapping carefully. "You didn't have to do this, you know."

"I've read it's traditional for the sire to give a gift, and I wanted
to be proper," he said.

Seeing a belt knife lying there, she picked it up and looked it over.
It was engraved with designs that were northern. Rhosyn had seen things
like it near Ista before. "Oh thank you!" She didn't have a sheath on the
belt she was wearing with the dress so she'd have to get it later. The
humming changed timbre and she was reminded why she'd come here in the
first place. "Oh shards, we'd better get going or we'll miss our own
Hatching."

K'ran laughed, and offered her his arm. "That would certainly be a
negative. I want to see every moment of this."

His and Rogueth's first-ever Hatching. How amazing!
