Description: Rhosyn informs the others they have a problem.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 15 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Lanniya, Pierka
First, she had asked Orlaith to reach Anaeryth. The queen hadn't been
able to do so. Before it had upset her too much that she couldn't
reach her daughter, Rhosyn had thanked her then quietly ran around the
Weyr hoping she'd see her. She checked her office for notes. She asked
the watchdragon if he'd seen them leave or if it had been recorded.
Then, she had finally started to feel a very cold feeling well up
inside. The dragons hadn't keened. So Anaeryth was alive. **Then where
on Pern could they be?**
Pulling her thoughts together, she decided maybe it was time to let
others know. They could send out a search party quietly. After all, if
Anaeryth was somewhere where Orlaith couldn't order her back, that
didn't bode well. Was she unconscious? }:Vilarth, Rogueth-mine needs
yours now:{ Orlaith passed on, broadcasting urgency, but keeping it
from the rest of the Weyr. There had been too many instances lately
where River Bluff's golds had been in danger. Rhosyn was beginning to
think she was going to have to put the other two in a room and keep
them there forever. Sitting in her sitting room, she grabbed a roll
and almost put the whole thing in her mouth, eating to hide her nervousness.
"Rhosyn, what is it now?" Lenala asked when she came in. She sounded
slightly annoyed. She had had such a good time with a good book when
her summons had disturbed her.
}:Mine comes,:{ Rogueth relayed, concerned by what he felt from the
queen. }:What has happened?:{
K'ran felt Rogueth's concern before he received the message to go to
the Weyrwoman's. He arrived on Lenala's heels and nodded at both of
the goldriders. "How are we doing?"
Rhosyn looked at Lenala first, then at K'ran. Things had been going so well.
She had been getting rest and it had almost seemed like normal. And she had
to be the one to tell them there was a problem. Sighing, she looked at
them both.
"I can't find Lanniya. Orlaith can't find Anaeryth. And she's so egg heavy I can't
fly out and go find her. Maybe nothing's wrong....but...." She laid her head in her
hands. Of course something was wrong. Something was always wrong. **I am
going to have gray hair before my fortieth turn. Sharding girl!**
Despite her best efforts to remain calm, Orlaith was picking up on her
rider's distress and that wasn't good for Rhosyn or the Weyr. "Lenala....you know her
friends better than me-find them and ask them if they know where she
might have gone? K'ran...how do we send a search party if we don't know where to search?"
}:My daughter is not here and I do not know where she has gone:{ Orlaith sounded
confused by that. That was a rare event for her and she didn't quite
understand it.
"Well, she has a sister in Dolphin Cove Weyr, but Orlaith should be
able to reach her if she was there," Lenala replied with a frown.
**Vilarth, where's Anaeryth?**
}: She's not _here_, :{ Vilarth replied after a pause. Something in
way she emphasized here, made Lenala's frown deepen.
K'ran had also asked Rogueth, and he bit his lip at the answer. "He
knows she hasn't gone /between/, because she hasn't keened, but he
can't find her. Is it possible for golds to hide themselves from other dragons?"
"Right Orlaith said she wasn't gone either, like that. She just can't reach
her." Rhosyn looked over at Lenala and back to K'ran. "No, they can't. No
dragon can turn off that channel. Especially to their senior queen."
In her mind, Rhosyn was trying to think. Her thoughts wouldn't focus,
though. They kept going everywhere.
"Her parents drowned in a storm some Turns ago...you think she might
have gone to...." Lenala said with very faint voice. She couldn't
finish the sentence, it was just too horrifying, too sharding
dangerous. All golds and bronzes were told about /timing/ and _why not
to try it_.
"If she's gone some_when_ else, it would explain why even Orlaith
can't reach her." K'ran said.
His tone was calm even as his mind began to run through the
possibilities. He bit his lip again as he considered what they could
do. Unfortunately, he thought the answer was 'not much'.
"If the dragons can't reach her, we can't get the coordinates. Trying
to guess which storm it was and where might not give us the
information to go back after her safely. We can't risk Orlaith, either."
The senior queen was egg-heavy and didn't need to be disturbed. That
could rouse the whole Weyr. Not that their junior goldrider missing
wouldn't...but so far no one seemed panicked about her whereabouts. It
seemed that she hadn't been gone long enough to trigger a panic in the
dragons.
**But if she dies /between/ times, will they even know?** he wondered.
Timing incidents had been so rare...he hadn't been involved in any, or
had heard about anyone who had, other than the lessons they were taught.
"So, no running along corridors, screaming: she's gone! We just wait
to see if she returns safely?" Lenala said. She felt a fatalistic calm
descend on her.
"I'm not saying that I like it as a possibility," he admitted. "But
I'm not sure how we could reach for her without coordinates."
"I could check her weyr to see if she left any notes," Lenala
suggested, although she had no high hopes for it. If she was going
off to the past, she would take all notes and calculations she had
with her.
"I don't think even her sister knows which storm it was. Her grandparents might,
but aye it would take time to track down the coordinates and if it was such a dangerous
storm, it would risk whoever went back for her. Something like that would mean bronzes
or golds but we only have two queens now-we can't.." If Lanniya had done this, Rhosyn
was going to kill her herself if she managed to come back. After everything....the girl was a fool. Torn between wanting to cry at the situation and how helpless she was but also wanting to strangle a certain goldrider, she gritted her teeth against her frustration.
"If she gets stuck whenever she is...there would be somewhere in the
Records....Lanniya would have enough sense to go to a Weyr then right?" It was probably some turns ago if I remember right from her candidate report. "Lenala, you were here then. Do you remember anything said about a young queen?" Rhosyn already knew the answer, though. And it pointed to all signs of Lanniya going to the wrong time, which meant they really would have no clue when to start looking. "Either way, we need to quietly let the other Weyrleaders know. If she does show up anywhere, they'll know why and to contact us immediately. Hopefully, she will be able to get herself back."
Standing, Rhosyn was going to head out to where Orlaith was to scratch her and calm her. "So we wait?" Hopefully, Lanniya would make it back against all odds. Because Rhosyn was not looking forward to having to tell her sister and grandparents that she had done such a thing.
"Nope, nothing. No strange young queens in trouble," Lenala replied
with a shake of her head. "Not even rumours." She was as frustrated
and worried as Rhosyn was, just hiding it better.
"I suppose we'll have to wait," K'ran agreed with a sigh. He didn't
like waiting. He'd rather _do _ something. But it seemed as though
there was not much to be done.
