Teseada

Teseada

E'naer watched the group of weyrlings gathering around him with mixed feelings: pride and nervousness. Pride, because the weyrling class was now ready for the first flights, nervousness, because this was first time for him as a weyrlingmaster's third. The class had been divided to a
three groups. For some reason he had got the group with Teseada. He had thought that a Weyrlingmaster would have wanted to keep the young gold-pair under _his_ supervision.

"Demalia, do the head count, please," E'naer asked.

The greenrider quickly counted the waiting weyrlings, her finger and lips moving as she did so. "Everyone is here," she reported after a moment.

"Okay then," the older greenrider muttered quietly under his breath and took a deep breath. "Now, listen up!"

After he was sure he had everyones attention, he continued: "It's time for you to fly for the first time with your lifemates. The preceding sevendays have been busy for you. Your lifemates have been practising flying and
hunting and you have all made your own straps. Now it all culminates here and now. I and Eillispeth will show you example. See this rock?" He lifted up his hands that hold a fist sized white stone.

"I place it to the ground to mark a place where you're to land and this is your starting point,"
E'naer told. "If you have questions or problems, don't hesitate to ask me or Demalia," he turned to his gaze to the dragonets. "And if you have questions or hesitations, please tell it to Eillispeth or Tapheth immediately," he adressed the young dragons.

Then E'naer climbed up on Eillispeth. After he had secured himself to the straps, the green's powerful hind legs pushed her from the ground. She took only few wingstrikes and then glided two dragonlenghts. She landed gracefully and E'naer dismounted. He dropped the rock to the ground and jogged back to the waiting weyrlings.

"Now is your turn," he smiled. He was tempted to tell Teseada to go first, but remembering the weyrlingmaster's reprimands conserning his attitude towards the goldweyrling (there obviously was such thing as too much respect), choose a bronze pair instead.

They performed well, but the next pair, a brown, managed somehow to land on his nose. Luckily, he wasn't injured, just embarrassed.

"Now, Teseada and Onnyth, your turn."

It was daunting, there was no doubt about that, thought Teseada as she fastened her helmet, before taking her seat on the gold. She took a moment to make sure that the straps were fastened.

}:_I_ would not let you fall.,:{ stated the gold as though that were obvious.

**I know you wouldn't, but this is how it's done,** replied her rider as she waited for the signal to go.

That signal came from Demalia, using the age old pumping of the arm to tell the pair to take to the air.

It was all to brief though, a leap upwards, a few wingbeats and they were back on the ground.

}:See!:{ snorted the dragon.

**I know, we made it.**

"Good work!" E'naer grinned proudly. "Now, Karri, your turn. Let Demalia check your straps first and then you can do your flight."

"Our turn beauty," Karri said a bit nervously as she mounted Elliath.
She wished that Kamira had been part of her group, she could have used the support of her friend right about now.

}: We have been waiting for this! :{ Elliath said excitedly as Demalia looked over the straps, }: Now I will fly with you! :{

Karri saw Demalia throw her fist into the air and before she could think up some excuse to stall them, Elliath jumped skyward taking long strong wingbeats before coming down to the ground right next to the dropped stone.

"Well done. Excellent aim you got!" E'naer called them.

Next one he chose to try was bluerider, then another brown...
and finally. "Aryn, you next."

If Aryn had gone first, she certainly would have swaggered up and flown quite easily, but with all the waiting, she was becoming more nervous

**I want to fly** she thougtht, hoping and hoping nothing would go wrong. This was just really the first test, and she desperately didn't want to fail.

}: We will fly! High into the sky, away from what is upsetting you :{ Viyanth encouraged her rider.

"No fair heart, we must only to the stone," Aryn said her voice quavering as she checked her straps before mounting Viyanth.

}: No farther? :{ **No, no farther** Aryn said firmly, waiting for Demalia's signal. When her first pumped Viyanth immediately took off, launching and then flexing her wings into the air. }:We fly!:{ The young dragon said, countinging to pump her wings.

**We must land now** Aryn said pointing. Viyanth compiled, unwillingly, She overshot the stone by a couple arm length.

"Good work Aryn and Viyanth!" E'naer called them and gestured them to move aside, so the next one would have room to land.
