Description: The Weyrleaders meet the Holders
Location: Sunstone Seahold
Date: month 5, day 2 of Turn 8
Notes: Mentioned: Eirock
Having taken a sevenday to settle into the role as Weyrleader and make
sure he felt accustomed to River Bluff Weyr, K'ran thought it was
finally time to complete the trip to Sunstone. He'd chosen the restday
in hopes that the Lord Holder would be somewhat less busy with
repairing the damage done to his hold and with more time to meet with
him. Now he plucked at his new knots as he spoke to Rhosyn.
"What can you tell me about this pair? I know the Lord was confirmed
not that long ago and he had a new bride."
"Bryvin was steward here when Morin died. The Conclave confirmed him
since he had ties someway to somewhere. His Lady, Xeladrie, just birthed
their Heir and first child. It wasn't a love match, but they seem to get along."
Rhosyn realized she hadn't received any messages from the Lady Holder so
apparently they were getting along.
"So he's been Holding...nearly a Turn?" K'ran's memory of exactly when
the ascension was was somewhat fuzzy. "I look forward to meeting him
and his wife then."
"Aye they're a pleasant couple." Rhosyn walked the rest of the way into the
courtyard of Sunstone Seahold, leading K'ran since he had never been here.
She had purposefully brought them on Orlaith who had just glided up to the
fireheights, since Rogueth would have been an unknown bronze. She had
sent ahead, letting the Lord Holder know of their arrival a few days
before but one never knew.
"Wish I'd thought to bring something for the child," he fretted
quietly as he waited for one or both of the leaders to appear. There
had been courtyard scattering as the people spotted the dragons.
One of the drudges in the yard had had the sense to go find the
important people and tell them that a great gold dragon was here.
Xeladrie had been watching out a window and enjoying the sun, so she'd
already started to descend to the first level to greet them. She
dispatched the drudge to prepare food and drink for their guests,
depending on where they would want to be seated. There was a formal
room they could all have a meeting in, or smaller comfortable to sit
and have a private chat. She waited just inside the Hold's doors for
her husband to join her before going out.
Bryvin strode out of his office with an Understeward and Captain at
his heels. "No," he said shortly to the young man. "I said they were
to be housed right away in the secondary level dormitory of the far
wing. They will not be staying in tents when we have 'fall day after
tomorrow." The young man nodded and peeled off just as the Lord
arrived at his wife's side. "Sorry I'm late but without Eirock I'm
doing double duty." He kissed her cheek and took her hand motioning
for the drudge to open the door.
"Welcome to Sunstone," he smiled as they walked through it.
"I don't think they'll mind. I took a moment to arrange for proper
treatment for our distinguished guests," Xeladrie said quietly before
the door opened.
Rhosyn, she recognized. The man with her? She didn't know him. Her
hand tightened slightly on her husband's.
"Weyrwoman, Weyrleader, please be welcome to our Hold," she said courteously.
"Oh thank you very much. K'ran, this is Lord Bryvin and Lady Xeladrie of
Sunstone. K'ran is River Bluff's new Weyrleader," Rhosyn introduced them
all to each other and then smiled at Xeladrie. It had been some time since
she'd seen the Lady Holder and she did like her after all.
"A pleasure My Lord," Bryvin extended his hand to the new Weyrleader.
The man was a bit short but not overly so. But he was vital and his
body language exuded confidence.
"A pleasure to meet you as well. How has this last Turn at Sunstone
treated you? I understand you were Steward before you rose to the
rank," K'ran greeted, giving a firm handshake.
"And congratulations on their birth of your son and heir, m'lady and
lord," he added, smiling at Xeladrie.
The Lady's smile froze slightly as she curtsied. "It was happy for
both of us," she said.
"I was," Bryvin nodded. "This turn has had it's challenges," he said.
"But the Weyr helped us find our people most in need after the recent
Hurricane. My thanks," he squeezed the offered hand warmly.
Bryvin's arm went around Xeladrie in a protective gesture. He didn't
know quite why she'd stiffened slightly but he smiled encouragingly.
"My Lady is very well loved here at Sunstone. She has done us a great
service far earlier than anyone would have expected." Pride shone in
his carriage as he lifted her hand to his lips giving every evidence
of affection greater than his actual regard. "Can we give you some
refreshment?"
"I think that would be wonderful," Rhosyn replied encouragingly. She
watched Bryvin and Xeladrie, considering how things had changed since
she had last come to Sunstone between them. Surely the baby meant less
stress for the Lady Holder. An Heir on the first try-not bad. "And know we
are always here for our holders when they need us." Moving closer to K'ran,
she led him inside, following behind the other couple, letting him see
Sunstone along the way.
"Yes, I've made sure to have the kitchens know. You could sit in a
private side room with us, or in an office if this is more
professional," the Lady Holder said quietly.
K'ran looked at Rhosyn, happy to let her decide.
"I think a side room would be fine. I mean we have a few things to discuss, but we could do it over food surely." The Weyrwoman was glad to be away from the Weyr for once, though she recognized that this was an important meeting since Bryvin and K'ran were seeing each other for the first time.
"That sounds good," Bryvin smiled and turned to lead the way inside
with his wife at his side.
