F'nix

F'nix

F'nix caught up with E'naer after class and cleared his throat awkwardly. "Excuse me sir, do you have a minute?"

"Of course I have, F'nix. What's on your mind?" E'naer replied with encouraging smile.

"Um." F'nix glanced around. "It's kind of personal." His cheeks were pink.

"Well, let's go to my office then," E'naer said.

"Thanks." F'nix smiled awkwardly and walked in silence until they reached the office.

E'naer closed the door after them and directed F'nix to take a seat. "So, what's so sensitive?" he asked curiously when they had settled down.

F'nix sat perched on the edge of the chair. "It's about the… you know… the restrictions…" His face was even redder.

"What about them? There are placed on you for a reason, you know that?" E'naer asked.

"Oh I know," F'nix said quickly. "I was just wondering about…um…" He cleared his throat. Shards this was awkward. "Um… doing it myself…"

"Do you mean masturbating?" E'naer clarified without a blink.

F'nix's mouth dropped open at the bluntness of the reply. "Yes sir," he choked out.

"I was healer's apprentice before I Impressed and then I switched to dragonhealing. You learn talk about things with their real names in those crafts. Besides, Nisith doesn't know what that word means. Dragons don't do that so it has no meaning for them," E'naer explained with slightly amused tone.

"Poor them," F'nix muttered. "So- are we allowed to?" Oh Faranth he hoped so!

"Only when they are sleeping and make sure he's in deep sleep. The word may not mean anything to him but the action will," E'naer said. "Of course, if you still have energy for that after day's drills, we're doing something wrong."

F'nix grinned, partly in appreciation for the comment, partly in relief. "Yeah, well there is that. I'm usually too tired. I thought that if I wasn't and…" Well he didn't need to sketch a picture of this.

E'naer nodded, understanding his meaning. "Considering we are dealing with adolsents and young adults here, I'm surprised that question doesn't crop up more often. Of course, we don't actully advertise that option and most holdbred are taught not to do it during their earlier life. Weyrbreds already know the rules about it."

The weyrling smirked. "I remember that talk from Ma. Not that I listened." He was only human after all. Frankly, he doubted too many young men really never did it. "But it's normal, right?"

"Yes, it's normal. I could almost say typical," E'naer grinned.

That was probably more than he wanted to think about the older man and F'nix blushed again. "It's better than going crazy," he mumbled.

"Please, no getting crazy," E'naer said.

F'nix chuckled. "I'll do my best sir, but no promises.'

"Well, I better keep an eye on you then," E'naer's tone came very close to flirting and he realized it himself. **Hands off, he's junior weyrling and you do have G'wen.**

"I'm sure you'll keep a close eye on us all sir," F'nix replied. He wouldn't want to be in charge of so many young men and women. They must push all of their boundaries all the time.

"It's all in job description," E'naer said.

"Remind me to never become Weyrlingmaster staff," F'nix said dryly.

"It isn't a job that just anyone can do. Why do you think the Weyrlingmaster's spot is still open? They get burned out fast," E'naer replied.

"I can't say I've given it any thought," F'nix admitted. "Can't the Weyrleader just - make someone do it?"

"Right, reclutant Weyrlingmaster, how well you think that will work out?" E'naer asked with a snort.

"Same as reluctant wingriders." F'nix shrugged. "Hopefully someone will come along and want to do it."

"Eventually, they'll find someone. Meanwhile, D'kere and I hold the fort," E'naer said. He had been in this situation before.

F'nix grinned. "Who needs a Weyrlingmaster when we have you two?"

"Thank's for the vote of confidence," E'naer said. He was not going to tell a weyrling how badly he and D'kere were swamped when they had to do the work of three people.

"No problem," F'nix said lightly. "Nisith is getting hungry, I should go." He stood and waiting to be dismissed.

"Don't keep him waiting. We'll see at the next class," E'naer said.

"Yes sir, thanks sir."
