**Savith, let Seneth know we're coming.**

Riveenata waited for her dragon to get the okay, juggling her packages. It hadn't taken much to convince Riveenata's sister to make a special batch of cookies. It had been a little harder to get her brother to work on something, since metalwork was time and expenses, but promising him a restday flight on Savith wherever he wanted won him over.

}:Seneth, is your rider busy? Mine has treats.:{ the green said.

}:He is not busy,:{ came the reply. }:He will welcome her company. While yours visits mine, will you sit with me?:{ the bronze added politely. }:My ledge is large and in the sun.:{

}:Our ledge is very small. I would like a bigger one but my rider likes having a small weyr,:{ the green said huffily. }:The sun sounds very nice.:{

For his part, F'lin was just closing the door to his office and trying to plan the remainder of his evening. It was his birthingday, after all, and as tired as he was, it would be good to have company. He hurried back to his weyr and ended up running into Riven in the corridors. "Hey there. How's things?"

"They're good. I heard it was your birthing day so I thought I'd stop by," she said shyly.

"Did you? Who told!" F'lin pretended to look angry, but couldn't hold the expression for long. If his birthingday passed by and nobody noticed - that was something to get angry about!

"I have my ways. And presents," she said with a grin.

"Presents!" F'lin slung his arm around Riven's shoulders and planted a noisy kiss on her cheek. "Aww. You shouldn't have!"

She grinned. "You get them once we can sit down. And it wasn't a big deal."

"You're always a big deal," he told her. By then they'd reached his weyr. F'lin flung the door open and gestured her inside. "Unless you think we should go to the dining cavern?"

"I ate. I dunno if you did. If you didn't, well, these'll ruin dinner." She handed him the basket with the wrapped-up cookies.

F'lin eagerly peered inside. "Cookies? This is great! Consider dinner ruined!"

"You don't want to get something nice first? Go to a tavern and get a steak or something?"

"I could do that. Do you want to do that?" F'lin hesitated. "Honestly, I'm also happy with gorging myself on cookies until I'm sick. It's my birthingday!"

"It's your birthday so your choice. I just assumed a red-blooded bronzerider would want a big meal." Her foot scuffed the floor. "There's something else in there too."

"Really?" F'lin let the 'red-blooded bronzerider' comment pass as he dug beneath the cookies. "You shouldn't have. But it is my birthingday..."

"That's why i figured I'd find something."

F'lin looked up briefly and grinned before resuming his hunt through the cookie basket-- but not before popping a cookie into his mouth. At the bottom of the basket was a heavy flat object wrapped in cloth. He withdrew it and raised his eyebrows at Riven, his mouth being too full of cookie to say much. When she nodded, he set the basket aside and unwrapped his gift.

It was a large, decorative buckle designed for the chest strap of a bronze dragon; perfectly shiny and etched with a pattern of stylized dragons circling each other. F'lin made an approving noise, swallowed his cookie bite, and promptly leaned over to hug the greenrider. That's amazing. I can't believe-- it looks so good. Thank you. Is this your brother's work?"

"Isn't he good at it?" she said. His work really was amazing. "He's been wanting to do something like that but nobody's commissioning him. If Seneth shows it off maybe others will be impressed and word will get around. He's a handsome dragon to wear it on, right?"

"You say the sweetest things and give the best gifts." F'lin stooped a bit to give her a cookie-flavored kiss. "You're the best."

She was flushing when he pulled back. Was it too much? "You're doing him a favor too - I just helped. But I try to be a good friend."

"And today you can cross that off your to-do list. Cookie?" He offered her the basket, his eyes still on the shiny buckle. Seneth would like it too.

"Sure. These are the best," she said eagerly, shifting closer and nicking one.

"Are they ever." He set the buckle aside reluctantly and took a second cookie. "So do you have the rest of the evening free, or do you have to rush off somewhere and leave me all by myself for the saddest birthingday ever?"

"I think I can stick around. Rhosyn doesn't work us so hard that I'm stuck doing duty all the time."

"Good. I say we take the cookies, scare up a bottle of wine, and head over to the beach. Maybe someone's started a bonfire?" Even though it wouldn't be _his_ party, F'lin was beginning to feel like he ought to do something more to mark the day. Not every moment had to be about his new knots.

"It's a nice evening, I bet somebody has. Let's see what we can do about a party." That sounded like a fine way to spend the evening.

F'lin grinned. "Best. Birthingday. Ever. Thank to you. Come on-- let's see what we can find." He tucked the basket under one elbow and held out his other hand to the greenrider.

She grinned and took his hand. "A whole lotta fun, I hope."
