K'ale

He whistled as they circled the Weyrbowl after greeting the watch
dragon politely. He bore a message packet from G'nir to K'sedel with
their monthly trade of reports. Of course he never really spoke to
either of the Weyrleaders, he was simply the courier.

He didn't mind the duty at all, in fact he liked getting away from the
cold and into the tropical weather of Riverbluff.

As they circled he could tell Imalkyth's attention was captivated by
the young gold in the Weyrbowl. K'ale chuckled. **She's beautiful
isn't she?**

}:She is very pretty,:{ the brown agreed. }:Her name is Anaeryth:{

K'ale just shook his head. Imalkyth had once won a gold flight and
they always turned his head. Wide pecan brown wings landed them near
where the Weyrling was near the river and **Alright, you flirt while I
deliver these messages,** he said as he slid down from his seat and
strode toward the lower caverns entrance.

Anaeryth peered at the brown with interest, lifting her golden head
and beckoning him with a croon. She'd not met him before and was
immediately charmed by his intense regard. Beside her, Lanniya looked
up as well, tilting her head to the side. **What do you think,
Anaeryth?**

}: He is new. A nice shade of brown. :{ The gold lifted one wing and
then another, stretching them. }: I think he is visiting. :{

Lanniya patted the gold hide lightly and addressed the brown, always
curious and willing to meet new dragons that entered the Weyr.
**Welcome to Riverbluff. What is your name? I can't just call you
handsome brown.**

}:I am Imalkyth,:{ the brown answered the person though he'd never
spoken to another human besides _his_ before. }:Of Dragonsfall,:{ he
added. }:Mine is delivering messages.:{ He approached the young gold
and presented himself for her inspection.

**Are you talking to someone,** K'ale was puzzled by the part of the
interchange he had heard.

}:Yes, Anaeryth's asked me a question,:{

Anaeryth approached Imalkyth and did indeed inspect him, but was
gracious enough that she wasn't pushy about the matter. }: Mine is
right. You are handsome. :{ Anaeryth settled down on the beach. }: You
may lay next to me, if you like. :{

Lanniya grinned at her gold's imperious, but polite manner. **It's
very nice to meet you, Imalkyth. I am Lanniya, Anaeryth's rider.** To
Anaeryth, she clucked her tonue. **Don't get attached, silly wherry.
He's not going to be here long.**

Anaeryth preened. }: Maybe, but he is here now.:{

Imalkyth immediately took the offer of company with the gold and
settled down next to her. He had a dim memory of Onnyth when his
reminded him at times. But Anaeryth was young and lovely, }:We should
come here more often.:{ He said to his rider and then turned his
contentedly whirling eyes on the small woman talking to him.
}:Hello,:{ he said with what amounted to a dragon chuckle. }:You have
good hair. Mine likes your color hair.:{

K'ale hadn't taken long to deliver the packet to the Weyr office and
came trotting down the ramp back toward the bowl. First he bowed to
the young queen and then turned to her rider. "Hello," he said as he
came toward where they were. "I'm K'ale of Dragonsfall," he smiled at
the young queenrider. "I'm sorry if he's a little forward."

**Why, thank you, Imalkyth. I like my hair too. **

Anaeryth shifted against the brown. }: I like it the most. :{

Lanniya laughed softly at the interplay between the two and turned on
her toes to meet Imalkyth's rider. She immediately offered her hand.
"Hi! It's a pleasure, K'ale of Dragonsfall. Don't worry about
Imalkyth, Anaeryth likes boldness. I'm Lanniya."

"Nice to meet you Lanniya," he smiled warmly, He really did like the
color of her hair. It reminded him of a warm fire. He didn't really
mind that Imalkyth had given his secret away. "We were just delivering
some reports." He didn't quite know why he seemed to need to explain
his presence.

"Oh, so you'll have to head back right away?" She turned to look at
Anaeryth who was busy being adored by the brown. Lanniya turned back
to K'ale with a mischievous, bright grin. "I don't think Anaeryth is
quite done with your brown just yet."

"No," he smiled. "We can stay a bit." He looked over at Imalkyth as he
nuzzled the young queen. "She really is quite beautiful," he said. "So
is her rider and I would be happy to stay and get to know you a little
better if you'd like that."

That made her blush immediately, her pale skin pink. "Oh. Well...hmm.
Thank you." She tucked a stray piece of hair from her face. "That
would be nice." She looked up. "You and Imalkyth wouldn't get it
trouble would you?"

"Oh no," he smiled. "After the messages were delivered I was free for
the rest of the day." Dragonsfall and Riverbluff were in close enough
zones for the day to be in a similar time. "How are you enjoying your
weyrling training?"

"It's good. I really like it. The classes can get really boring, but
the outside learning is much better. And as soon as the first Blooding
is over, we'll be graduating." Her expression shone clear that she was
excited about being done with classes. "Then I guess I'll be going to
the queen's wing." She bounced a little on her toes at the thought,
then tilted her head slightly. "And do you do messaging all the time,
or just sometimes?"

"Pretty frequently I guess," he smiled a little shyly. She was cute
and energetic, he found himself more than just a little interested in
the girl. "Are you hungry? Is it lunch time yet?"

Lanniya looked up at the sky for a moment. "It's getting pretty close.
Do you know where the dining cavern is? I don't mind showing you."

K'ale's smiled widened. He could probably have found it if he needed
to this time of day but he'd never hung around long enough before.
Well, he hadn't wanted to before. "That would be great," he said.
"Show the way."

Spontaneously, Lanniya took K'ale's hand and tugged him in the
direction of the dining cavern. "It's this way. " She seemed to float
along the ground instead of walking, the skirts around her legs
flaring in the breeze; her steps were light and quick, but graceful.
"Would you like to have lunch with me? You can tell me about your
Weyr. I've never been there."

"I'd love to," he chuckled. and followed along never letting go of her
hand. He was enchanted by this elfin girl with her strawberry hair and
friendly smile. If the word had never occurred to him in the past, he
would classify her as a sweetheart. Nevermind the goldrider bit, he
was smitten. Once they arrived in the dininghall, he followed along
as they filled their plates. "What would you like to know?"

Some people who didn't know her may have expected the slender girl to
eat sparingly, but Lanniya's plate was piled with meats, tubers and
fruits. She had found that after Impressing Anaeryth, her appetite
increased from all of the extra work. She had noted with pleasure that
she wasn't as soft as she used to be and found that she liked it. It
felt good. She sat at a table and gestured for him to sit near,
curling her bare feet under her for comfort. "Everything. What's it
like? I met Genna when I Impressed, but I really don't know anyone
from there. I've never been."

His own plate was also stacked high and while he noticed the amount of
food in front of her it wasn't all that unusual for dragonriders it
was a little surprising considering her tiny frame. He grinned and
began to dig in. "It's cold," he said. "Really cold in the winter." He
didn't even want to think about how miserable it was to be the watch
pair on night duty during the winter. It might not bother his dragon
all that much but he had experienced the freezing.

"I like snow." She volunteered after taking a bite of a piece of
fruit. "When we traveled that way and it wasn't often in the winter, I
would get to make snow figures and throw snowballs." Her gaze became a
bit wistful at the memory. "Besides, there's nothing like a cup of hot
klah with some spices in cold weather. Or sitting with soft furs
around you in front of a fire and smelling the wood smoke."

"Oh," he said interested. "You traveled? Did you do it alot?"

"My grandparents were Traders. " She replied before popping a piece of
fruit in her mouth. "We only stayed in Holds during Threadfall and it
was only chance that we came here. We never had before." She tilted
her head at him. "Are you from your Weyr? I mean, were you born
there?"

"Yes I was," he nodded with a smile. "My ma and pa are both riders. I
was the product of a flight."

Imalkyth took that moment to break in. }:We have been recalled,:{
K'ale wasn't happy with that, he was just getting to know this very
fascinating girl. But he knew his duty. "I'm sorry," he said. "I have
to get back to Dragonsfall."

Lanniya gave a slight pout, but nodded. She had been enjoying the
conversation too. "I heard." She sighed a bit. "Well, maybe I'll see
you next time you deliver your messages."

He smiled and touched her arm. He wanted... well he didn't quite know
what he wanted so he nodded. "It was very nice to meet you. I'll be
back soon," he said then turned and ran to where Imalkyth waited.
