Almonteo
Almonteo

Dirwol sat in his Master's office. He had not had many chances to talk b to him since he had first arrived at the weyr. In the confusion he had not been noticed, as usual and had yet to talk in any length about were he had been or the fact that he had been searched. He knew he should have spoken to him long before this but, with becoming a candidate and being ushered off to the barracks and all, he had not found a moment until this day. He hoped his Master wasn't too angry with him. He sat quietly waiting for The MasterHarper to come in. He had told his flits to wait outside. He wasn't sure what Almonteo would think of them. He wanted to wait until he had the time to tell him of them first.

The Hallmaster walked down the hall towards his office, whistling a tune as he went. He gave the young journeyman a smile when he noticed him waiting there. "Hello there. Are you lookin for me, journeyman?"

"Yes, Master Almonteo. If I could have but a moment of your time?" He smiled . "Sure, of course. Come on in," the Hallmaster smiled as he opened the door wide. "After you."

"Thank you sir. I'm sorry I have not been to see you before this. I am also sorry to hear of the hall's destruction. I was surprised to find it burned when I arrived." He sat in an available seat. "I hear it has not been easy here."

Almonteo nodded thoughtfully and sat down at the desk. "Yes, I thought you didn't look familiar. I take it you were journeying? May I ask your name?"

"Dirwol sir. I was sent to assist one of my fellow Journeymen, Journeyman Hedias. I got caught in a pretty nasty storm. By the time I got back to the hall, it was gone. I came here when I learned where everyone had gone." "Well, you've had quit a long journey then," Almonteo nodded. "You must be tired."

"I've been at the Weyr for a short while sir. It would seem that I was searched upon my coming there. I have agreed to stand with the intention of continuing my craft should I not impress." He smiled. Suddenly there was a distraught squawk as a small gold body appeared above them and made a straight flight for the young journeyman. She chittered distressingly in his ear and wrapped her slender gold tail about his neck.
he soothed her and chuckled. He looked up as if waiting for the other to appear. It wasn't long before he had. He perched on the table and then on a shelf in the room. "I must apologize sir. They seem not to like waiting at the barracks for me." "Beautiful little creatures," Almonteo smiled, "And a gold, no less! How did you come to own such a rare pet?"

"They hatched while I was trapped by the storm. I was in a cave and saw the nest. I moved them back as far as I could from the water and they began to hatch. Before I knew it I was feeding them all the food I had in my travel pack. When I woke the next morning these two were with me. I really wasn't trying to impress them I just didn't want them hurt by the storm." He chuckled. "Treasure doesn't like not being with me. What I gather from her images is she is afraid I'll disappear on her."

"Well, you are certainly lucky indeed," the Hallmaster nodded. "Flits and being Searched? What an adventure you had. So I take it you want to continue your studies here while you Stand as a candidate?"

"Yes sir. I love my craft. I figure, if I don't impress, I can fall back on it." He smiled. "Sir, when Treasure clutches, would you like one of the eggs?"

"Oh, well," Almonteo laughed with mild surprise, "to be honest journeyman, I really don't know. I haven't thought about it. Perhaps. If not for me, than maybe for my wife. I think she would like to have a bit of company. But I have a feeling we have a long time to wait for that to happen."

"Yes she is still quite young." He smiled. Treasure chirupped and settled carefully on his shoulder. "I best be going. I just wanted to be sure to inform you of my return sir."

"Thank you. We should speak later about your plans for during your candidacy. But perhaps we should wait until after this Hatching. This may be the one for you."

"Of course sir. I look forward to it." he smiled as he nodded.
