Feeling ill

Writers: Paula, Emma
Date Posted: 9th July 2015

Characters: Miranek, Marcina
Description: Marcina is forced to seek Miranek's aid.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 13, day 30 of Turn 7

Yesterday's wet and hot had been replaced by bright sunshine. Marcina was
enjoying the Gather bustle until she started to feel ill. Her mother
escorted her when she seek aid from the healers.

"What seems to be the problem?" Whilst he would have liked to have enjoyed
more of the gather, the calling of a Healer meant he had to take his turn on
duty. And his wife was more than capable of supervising the children for a
few candlemarks or so.

"I'm feeling ill and I had a headache," Marcina complained. "The baby's
restless too," she added and placed her hands over the baby-bulge.

"I see," Miranek studied her for a moment, she was obviously a good way into
her pregnancy. "How far along are you?" he asked as he gestured to a seat
and poured out a small bowl of redwort solution to clean his hands with.

"Last trimester, I'm due during month two," Marcina replied.

"And how have things been otherwise. Any nausea still, or a general feeling
of things not being right?"

"Just the general feeling of illness," Marcina replied.

"I need to ask you a question that might sound a little indelicate, if you
don't mind."

"Go ahead," Marcina replied.

"When you go to the necessary, did you happen to notice the colour of your
urine?"

"Uh, when did I last had to go?" Marcina frowned. "Funny, I usually have to
go to relieve myself often because the baby's pressing the bladder."

"It is possible that you may have become a little dehydrated in this heat,"
Miranek said. That would fit with the symptoms she described. "I'm going to
get you some water, and ask you to stay here for a candlemark or so where
it's cooler. I need to you to keep drinking slowly, don't worry if you need
to go, that's normal. If it is a yellowy, golden colour, you need to keep
drinking. When it's a clearer, paler colour you've got the balance of water
back to normal." He looked to see if she understood. "And if the headache
doesn't start to clear up, we can give you something that is safe for you
and the baby."

Marcina nodded and listened carefully. She had interest in healercraft and
little bit knowledge. She was learning to become a herbalist. "I should have
realized that myself. It's so easy to forget to drink in this Gather
bustle."

"You won't be the first or last," he assured her. "It isn't unusual on a day
like this to see several people with similar issues."

"It's still so stupid of me," Marcina berated herself.

"It'll only be stupid if you do it again," Miranek advised.

"Yes, sir," Marcina replied.

"Now you just rest up, and tell me, or one of the other healers if you don't
start to feel better after a while. I'll have some water brought over for
you."

"Thank you, Master Miranek," Marcina said. She was going to insist that
Mirenek, and only Miranek would deliver her baby. She stroked her belly
gently. She didn't want anything to go wrong.

"We'll keep an eye on the both of you."
