Lanniya

Lanniya

Standing at the head of the room, D'lorn began the lecture. It was going to be one that undoubtedly led to questions. There were also always those that were bothered and there were staff members around the room watching and ready to spot those that might need extra attention. They weren't senior weyrlings yet and some of this was far off, but he liked to start the discussion. They were in their own weyrs now and they were growing fast.

"Well everyone, today we are going to discuss a subject most of you might have started to wonder about from time to time. Some of you may have more experience than others of course. Still, eventually all of you will participate in a mating flight." He cleared his throat and smiled, thinking of Villith. "For those with green dragons, this will mean giving your dragon control and not shrinking away from the feelings generated. Remember, if you inhibit them they may feel guilty which will cause problems within your bond. For you, Lanniya-your Flight will need to be long and will mean controlling your gold so she can get into the air properly so that we have a good clutch later."

Walking forward, he scanned their faces and continued talking. "For those of you with male dragons, you will be expected to treat the green or goldrider with respect afterwards. Sometimes, during flights-especially goldflights since they are more intense-things can get heated. Try to control yourselves as much as
you can. Flights are meant to be pleasurable for both parties. However-you need to know that sometimes people do get a little wild without the inhibitions they normally have. So be prepared for that." D'lorn nodded as he hoped they understood what he meant. "Mating Flights are nothing to be afraid of. Some riders look forward to them because of the great feelings they produce and the feeling of
being really one with your dragon. However, we do recommend that
those of you who don't have any experience seek out someone beforehand
to avoid confusing feelings during your Flight. The Weyrlingstaff
are prepared to help you find someone if you need it." Pausing, he
waited to see if there were any questions or concerns.

A'dryn felt the blood drain from his head, his face going ashen. He
would have to-- he swallowed. Male greenriders did unnatural things
and he knew he would have to face that but it was something to be
dealt with in the future. Only the future was coming a lot faster than
he liked.

Sitting beside A'dryn, Lanniya saw his face pale. Reaching over, she
grabbed his hand and murmured softly to him. "It'll be alright,
A'dryn."

He managed a slight nod... for her sake.

A'kades' eyes scanned the group, looking to see if anyone seemed bothered.

Fadira raised her hand. The brunette's face was flushed, but her voice was
clear regardless. "When you say experience, you mean actually...being
intimate with someone first?"

"Yes. As your Third has said, flight experiences can be rough. If that's
your first experience, it can have negative consequences for your dragon,"
A'kades answered.

C'gorn jumped in without raising his hand. "Isn't that only the case for
greenriders though? Why would it matter for men?"

Lanniya spoke up, her hand never leaving A'dryn. "Well, I wouldn't want
someone who didn't know what they were doing for my first flight." She
blushed a bit. "Not that I really know about the matter, but it would seem
to me that someone who was a bit more experienced would make it better."

At that moment, Rhosyn stepped forward, glancing at all of them with her hazel eyes. "All of you are going to receive more in depth training in the coming
sevendays about mating flights. The blues and greens will be speaking
with D'lorn, the bronzes and browns with A'kades. Lanniya-you will be going through
it with Lenala and I since a gold flight is quite different." Taking a breath, she
took it upon herself to answer the question at hand. "Because it's not just the riders that ride female dragons that can get hurt. Say a brownrider won D'lorn's flight. In the grip of Villith's lust, D'lorn is a lot stronger than he normally is. And don't mistake him, he is strong. He can lug firestone sacks and harnesses and whatever else a lot easier than any of you. He could easily hurt his partner if his partner didn't know how to handle him. So it's a lot easier if both sides
have some sort of experience going in besides more pleasurable usually."

A'dryn thought of a brown or bronzerider winning his flight, someone
who didn't even like men. Would they wake up and be sickened by what
they'd done? Would they... hurt him?

}:What is wrong?:{ Nalarith asked, sensing his distress.

**This class is... we're talking about difficult things.** It was so
hard to keep his emotions in check, to constantly lock his feelings
away to keep from upsetting his dragon. Sometimes he felt like he was
going to explode.

This had gotten a little darker than the bronzerider expected in the
mixed group lecture. But it was points that the weyrlings would have
to know about.

}:Do any of your riders need a moment to step outside?:{ Volaith asked
the weyrling dragonets.

V'kellyn had been observing, letting those who had more familiarity
with this class take the lead, hoping the students would feel more
comfortable. He watched carefully, though, trying to take note of
those who seemed more anxious or bothered, though he also tried to be
aware of those that might not be taking this lecture seriously enough.
Some who thought they needed no input on the matter were actually
very wrong.

}:Mine is upset,:{ Nalarith told Volaith. }:He says you are talking
about difficult things.:{

"What if we need that experience?" Fadira asked. "Do we just have
to...to find someone and get it over with?"

A'kades looked at A'dryn and nodded towards the door. If the young man
needed to leave and compose himself, he could do so.

A'dryn sat frozen, wondering if it would be worse to leave. Everyone
would see him, everyone would know he was too embarrassed to listen to
this. Ch'vin would undoubtedly tease him about it later. Ch'vin...
Cold dread filled him as he thought of the brownrider winning his
flight.

}:You are thinking things that have not happened,:{ Nalarith said.
}:They are making you think bad things. They should stop.:{

A'dryn clenched the desk hard, trying to put a wall between him and his
green.

Lanniya turned to A'dryn and spoke softly, her hand tightening on his own.
"Come on...let's go outside. It'll be okay."

The glance he gave her was full of gratitude and he nodded. A'dryn
forced himself to get up slowly. It was still embarrassing and his
face heated, but at least he wouldn't be alone.

D'lorn moved so that he was near the doorway so if A'dryn needed to talk to
him to calm down, he would be close by. He had been watching the greenrider
in particular. This would only be the start of a long conversation with him,
he had guessed. Hopefully, they could work out these problems before the time
came. **If just talking about the possibility causes this much of a problem,
this is going to be a serious issue.**

"If you have someone in mind, you're more than welcome to make those
arrangements yourselves after betweening. If not, the weyrling staff are more than
willing to help you with those arrangements as they have done for concerned weyrlings before you." Rhosyn hoped that the offer was clear. They would not make the choice for them, but they would provide them with support if they needed it. "And again, if any of you have questions after today, please see one of them. We are here to help prepare you and to support you through this experience of dragonriding just like everything else."

A'kades nodded at the Weyrwoman's words. He offered what he hoped was a
reassuring smile. He wanted to be approachable to them. "No matter how
embarrassing or pointless you think your question is, we'll hear it and
help you out. We'll make sure you're prepared."

Lanniya held A'dryn's hand as he rose. "We'll be back in a little bit.
I think he just needs some air." **Nalarith, I'm going to bring him
outside, meet us there because he might need you near.** She murmured her thanks to the Weyrlingstaff and Weyrwoman and led A'dryn out the door.
