Description: Famell catches up with his Hallsecond on the business he missed over the last month at the Hall.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 12, day 4 of Turn 7
Famell had given himself most of the last month 'off' from his major
duties to enjoy having his son and to help Shilara as much as
possible. Now, however he was eager and antsy to get back to the full
time duties of running the Hall.
First up, meeting with Thayde.
"Good morn, Thayde," Famell greeted as he entered the Hallsecond's
office. He knew he hadn't made an appointment, but now was as good a
time as any.
"Hope you don't mind a visit. I decided it was high time I get back to
my full duties in the Hall." Famell planted himself in the small chair
without being asked. He knew he needed to get a full update from
Thayde on all the goings on around the Hall.
Thayde arched one eyebrow over the round spectacles on his face.
Before becoming the Hallsecond he'd never needed any help with his
vision, and rather than blame aging, he instead blamed all of the
paper work and "other things" he had to deal with for the sudden
blurriness that occurred while he was reading. "Thirty-six is too
young for glasses!" He had groaned to the healer that had given him
the eye examination. "Just use them for reading." The man had assured
him.
Swiping his extra set of eyes off his face, Thayde set them aside and
rubbed the bridge of his nose, although there was a smile playing
across his face, "This might be the happiest day of my life. Is that
sad to admit?"
Famell couldn't help but chuckle, "So eager to push all the hidework
back my way eh?" He was grinning as he said it. "It _does_ get
tedious, that's for sure. Makes you long for the days of being a
journeyman, out and about, free to go as you will, doesn't it?" Famell
said the last with a hint of a sigh. This last Turn had shown him that
he wasn't quite _up_ to the fitness level of a young seaworthy
journeyman anymore, but that sure didn't stop him from remembering
those days with fondness.
"I do miss it some," Thayde admitted. "But I also enjoy being here at
Dolphin Cove, the people of the Weyr are... easier to deal with than
those who resided at Jade Harbor." He lifted his eyebrows because that
was putting it lightly.
"Oh, aye, I can imagine that. I traveled quite a bit in my journeyman
days. It's nice to feel _settled_ and have a place to actually call
home," Famell remarked. The Hall was more and more home to him than it
had ever been with Shilara and Ahimell as well as Famynta. Life
couldn't honestly get any better, could it?
"So, anything pressing I need to attend to first in my rounds?" He
asked the Hallsecond.
Thayde looked down at the running list he kept on his desk, "Haelen
tweaked her ankle the other day, she says she can't do chores because
of it, but the other apprentices think she's faking. Jandren wants to
take a deep sea trip for exploration, he's been asking for the past
month, mind you, so be ready for an earful about it when you see him.
Also we've had an abundance of seaweed washing up lately, the beaches
are covered, so you may want to delegate someone to investigate that."
He looked back up at Famell and grinned a little, "Need anything else
to do?"
Famell just chuckled. "I knew I picked the right Hallsecond when I
picked you. Why don't I let you handle Haelen, unless I bump into her
on my rounds. I'll speak with Jandren, and do some exploring of my own
regarding the seaweed issue. We do see more of it from time to time,
but not normally this time of year." Famell pondered that for a few
moments.
"Thank you again, Thayde for all you've done for the Hall. I couldn't
be more proud to call you my Hallsecond. You've really shown you were
ready for this job."
"Thank you sir," Thayde inclined his head toward Famell, although
there was a hint of a smile on his face. Receiving such a compliment
from the Hallmaster made him feel proud of the hard work that he'd put
in for the past few months. "Might I request a couple of days off next
sevenday? Just for some relaxation time."
"Of course," Famell replied, "A much deserved rest for sure. Take as
many days as you need." After a quick pause, he added, "I'm off then
to see what all has been happening. I will go check the seaweed issue
and see if we can figure out what's going on. Let me know if you
discover anything about it as well."
