Description: Delynn meets Zandan when he comes to the kitchen for an after hours bite.
Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 12, day 6 of Turn 7
Delynn was still learning names and faces, but felt she was doing
quite well, so when the massive man entered the kitchen, she was
surprised when she couldn't put a name with the face. He was not one
to be easily forgotten. He was very handsome despite his nose but his
size was what made him quite unforgettable. Given that the dining
Hall was closed for the night, and his rather disheveled appearance
she guessed he was coming into the Hold late after some type of work.
Instructing the drudges to stay at their tasks she dished up a heaping
bowl of stew and set it on a plate with a spoon and two large rolls.
Stopping briefly to pour a fresh cup of klah she balanced it all
perfectly as she approached him with a smile.
"You look as if you could use this," she said, taking note of his knots.
"I could, thank you," Zandan rumbled and gave her a look over. So this
must be the new Headwoman.
He was rather gruff, but exactly what you might expect of a guard
captain. "I'm Delynn, the new Headwoman as you might have guessed,"
she offered lingering to see if the burly man needed anything else
before she got back to work.
"I'm Zandan, the captain of the guard," Zandan replied. Perhaps he
would even remember this one's name.
"Good to meet you. Since I have you here, tis a good time to ask if
the barracks and general quarters for the guards are being adequately
attended to by the housekeeping staff?"
"Well, only unmarried, single guards live in barracks and they don't
care if there are few dust balls under furniture," Zandan replied. "We
have one drudge permanently assigned to the barracks and she's
adequate. She's old, so the boys won't bother her," he continued.
"Good to hear. Just checking to see that your needs are being met."
What she didn't share is that she'd had to have words with several
drudges who weren't doing their job adequately.
"Guards are generally a simple lot. Keep us well fed and on klah and
we're happy," Zandan grinned at her. She didn't seem to be a one bit
intimidated by him. The previous one, now she had been so scared of
Zandan that they barely exchanged one word.
"Ah, Headwoman's dream," she replied with a chuckle. If all 'lots'
could be so simple, my job would be as well." In her experience many
a crafter had a temperamental streak that equated to more work for
those around, though she did hate to stereotype because not all did.
"Any time you or yours need a bite or a cup, you just come round, or
let me know if it needs delivering."
"Will do," Zandan promised and saluted her with his mug.
She offered a smile, as she assessed the guard captain. He seemed
straightforward and friendly, though she well imagine one wouldn't
want to get him riled. Yet another of the Emerald Falls folk she'd
get on just fine with she decided. Turning her head she caught sight
of a drudge hacking away at the large roast for tomorrow. "Not that
way, Trimay! Remember what I said earlier?" Delynn's tone was firm,
but not overly harsh. Turning briefly back to the guard she said,
"Duty calls. It was good speaking with you, Zandan."
"Likewise Delynn," Zandand nodded politely. Yes, she was improvement
from the last one.
