Ilyssia

Ilyssia could barely contain her excitement as Gwynnyth alighted on
the rock ledge of their very own weyr. She couldn't wait for her first
glimpse of their new quarters. Yanley had assured her that this was
one of the best choices open to the junior weyrlings, particularly of
those with internal as well as external access. That had been very
important to Ilyssia. It wasn't particularly close to the stairs, and
so wasn't terribly convenient to the dining cavern or anything else,
but the young green rider didn't mind. Honestly, she doubted she'd
use the internal access all that much, but it would be handy for
dragonless guests, one in particular.

}:So we will sleep here, now?:{ Gwynnyth asked curiously, picking up
on her rider's enthusiasm.

"Yes," Ilyssia replied, hugging her lifemate's neck before
dismounting. Turning to appreciate the view, Ilyssia smiled. It was
lovely. The two proceeded into the cavern and Gwynnyth immediately
moved to inspect the hollow that was to be her bed.

}:It's so big!:{ She noted happily.

"Well, you aren't finished growing yet," Ilyssia replied with a chuckle.

}:I like it.:{

"I'm glad, deartheart," Ilyssia responded, tenderly reaching up to
scratch Gwynnyth's eyeridges before moving toward the heavy curtain
that lead to the main living area. Turning on the light switch, she
viewed her new home for the first time, pleased by what she saw.

}:You like it?:{ Gwynnyth asked poking her head past the curtain to get a look.

"Oh, I do. I really do!"

}:Good. We will both be happy here.:{ Gwynnth said, before returning
to her stone couch to see if it were as comfortable as it looked.

Though the living area was small, it wasn't overly so, which was one
reason Yanley had recommended it. Two large, stuffed chairs sat near
a little fireplace their soft blue gray fabric looking worn but
comfortable. In one corner was a tiny table and two wooden chairs
that would serve as a pleasant place to eat if she didn't want to go
down to the dining cavern. Although the stone walls were bare she
could easily envision where a tapestry might go and there was a small
alcove where she could put a vase. Across the room was a curtain
covering the doorway to the sleeping area.

Making her way to the bedroom, Ilyssia pushed back the curtain and
squinted. Seeing another light switch, she flipped it on to get a
better look. A huge bed swallowed up most of the small room. The
last occupant must have been a big man because the bed looked as if it
would easily sleep two people. Blushing, she realized that might
actually be the point. A small chest of drawers sat in the corner
with a wash basin on top. There were some hooks on the walls to hang
things, and obviously the weyr had been left furnished which was
definitely a plus. With a contented sigh and a broad smile she
returned to the main room and flopped into one of the chairs.

Her own weyr! Well, hers and Gwynnyth's of course. It was more than
she could have hoped for and she wished Dyosha could see it, but a
letter would have to suffice. Her second thought was that she
couldn't wait to show Aluka. Picturing him sitting across from her in
the other chair, maybe playing his guitar seemed to set the perfect
scene. Unless of course she envisioned him holding her instead of the
guitar, his lips gently descending to claim hers. Turning bright red,
she immediately checked to make sure Gwynnyth had missed that bit of
daydreaming. Luckily the green had dozed off, having found a
comfortable spot in the wallow.

Sitting in her weyr where it was quiet and peaceful, Ilyssia decided
perhaps it was time to finally stop pushing this whole issue with Luka
off to a corner of her mind. There was no use pretending she wasn't
attracted to the handsome candidate, that was just plain foolishness
and she knew it. Of course, just because she was attracted to him
didn't mean she had to do anything about it. Luka was a good friend
and she didn't want to do anything to jeopardize that. Would it put
their friendship at risk to pursue a different kind of relationship,
though?

Never having had a relationship of any kind, Ilyssia just didn't know.
Could it hurt to just try? He'd never given any indication that he
was attracted to her and it would be kind of embarassing if she tried
to pursue this and he wasn't interested in more than friendship.
Honestly, she kind of thought she'd rather know, one way or another,
though. Then maybe she could get that Sharding image of him in the
bathing chamber out of her head! Still, it was possible there was a
way to get some indication if he might be attracted to her without
just coming out and asking. She'd observed her fair share of teasing
and flirting since coming to the weyr. There seemed to be any number
of subtle ways to gain a man's attention or at least discern if he
were interested.

Perhaps that was the best course of action. Sort of feel him out on
the matter and see what reaction she got. Timing was another issue to
consider, of course. Waiting until she graduated to senior weyrling
made the most sense, just to be safe. In the meantime she'd pay close
attention when she spent time with Luka to see if she noticed any
indicators. Pleased to have a plan, Ilyssia grinned, settling into
her comfy chair to indulge in a bit more daydreaming while Gwynnyth
slept.
