Aw, thanks everyone! This weekend I plan on drinking some fancy hard sodas (alcoholic root beer? sure!) and watching some really bad movies with a big group of friends. And trying to hunt down Ben and Jerry's new vegan ice cream  - coffee caramel fudge sounds great....

Happy birthday! Alcoholic rootbeer is great - although I do find that different brands taste different, so I'd encourage you to do a taste test. If you want to try ginger beer, I like Crabbie's myself.

Root beer is a kind of soda (like a sweet version of Coke, kinda herby), and apparently it comes in alcoholic. I tried it and am not sure how I feel...

Root beer is made with Sassifras.  It's a vine that is native to central and south america. It has a very strong flavor and has been used in drinks (in the Americas at least) for a couple hundred years. Prior to soft drinks it was made without carbonation and called Sarsaparilla.

It is also grown, or a cousin is grown, in India.
