... Thats good in some ways (job security) but very bad for my mental state !!

Does anyone else have jobs that try to kill them?

And when you come home,  how do you find the energy to write!?!

My job's been pretty busy, plus I've been pretty busy around the house too. And yeah, sometimes I just stare at my computer unable to think of a single thing to type when I've had a busy busy day. My brain just refuses to work right. lol

@_@

You are feeling relaxed and calm. Your eyelids are veeeeery heavy. Do you feel sleepy? Yes. Yes, you feel very sleepy now. Allow your eyes to close, slooooowly. Very slowly. Good. now, open your email and begin composing a copost start with Arale.

I'm sure I've got a much easier job than you (as a stay at home mum) but what I try and do is just sit down in the morning and read all the replies, go away from them for a bit (unless something pops up right away) and then come back in an hour or so once they've had time to run around my waking brain for a bit.

And when I'm really busy or brain dead then I lean very (as I'm sure you all have noticed by now :P) very heavily on G'wen, as he writes himself.  I think the biggest thing is to just make the commitment to write every day.  When I went away to Spain I had a hard time getting back in the saddle, so to speak, as that habit was no longer there.  And a story that had been running through my brain for a good year had finally clicked into place, so it needed a bit of time to be nurtured and started in full.

Hope that helped a bit!!

There are times when I have no clue what to write in reply to a post. So I read it, sit there thinking and if nothing comes to me, close it and come back later. Usually by the third or fourth time I get a glimmer of what my persona wants to say.

Sometimes it doesn't come that quickly but like Len said. Going away and coming back helps as they kind of run around in your brain in the background before they finally make themselves known.

I've been through dry spells more than once and I know how it can be. Just write what comes and come back to the things that don't.

I sure do have that.... as I said to Eimi, sometimes I feel like headless chicken running around.

I work as a Mental Health Paraprofessional. Yes...work kills me too. There are days that I just want to bang my head repeatedly against my desk.  Okay, a lot of days end like that....

Suzee

See that button? No the one right there in the middle of your screen.... No it's not a picture its a BUTTON. /sigh..... bang bang bang.

Click the button please.

[mumble mumble]

Ok well I guess you'll just have to restart your computer and call back.

(please please don't call back)

Mine is more of a situation of:
"No, hun, there is really not a monkey there...."

"Really, I promise. Did you take your meds today?"

"There isnt a monkey there. I promise. Why dont you go ahead to treatment."

Five minutes later.... "I know its not there. No, I didnt kill your monkey."

(I'm not kidding. Actually happened.)

QuoteActual dialogue of a former XXXXXXX Customer Support employee with a caller:

Customer Support: "Ridge Hall computer assistant; may I help you?"

Caller: "Yes, well, I'm having trouble with XXXX."

CS: "What sort of trouble?"

C: "Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away."

CS: "Went away?"

C: "They disappeared."

CS: "Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?"

C: "Nothing."

CS: "Nothing?"

C: "It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type."

CS: "Are you still in XXXX, or did you get out?"

C: "How do I tell?"

CS: "Can you see the C: prompt on the screen?"

C: "What's a sea-prompt?"

CS: "Never mind. Can you move the cursor around on the screen?"

C: "There isn't any cursor, I told you, it won't accept anything I type."

CS: "Does your monitor have a power indicator?"

C: "What's a monitor?"

CS: "It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?"

C: "I don't know."

CS: "Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that?"

C: "Yes, I think so."

CS: "Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall."

C: ".......Yes, it is."

CS: "When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one?"

C: "No."

CS: "Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable."

C: ".......Okay, here it is."

CS: "Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer."

"I can't reach."

CS: "Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?"

C: "No."

CS: "Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?"

C: "Oh, it's not because I don't have the right angle - it's because it's dark."

CS: "Dark?"

C: "Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window."

CS: "Well, turn on the office light then."

C: "I can't."

CS: "No? Why not?"

C: "Because there's a power outage."

CS: "A power... A power outage? Ah, Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer came in?"

C: "Well, yes, I keep them in the closet."

CS: "Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from."

C: "Really? Is it that bad?"

CS: "Yes, I'm afraid it is."

C: "Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?"

CS: "Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer."

Obviously this customer service rep got into issues with his employer but I can't tell you how many times that kind of thing has run through my head.

Well yes....i do have the option to get killed from time to time.

Honestly, writing is my escape from work. So when work makes my head feel brain dead, writing helps me to restart it again. So even if I'm tired or something like that, at the end of the day I sit and just read. I think about things if I need to and respond later or if I can get my head to work, I shoot off a reply and done. Sometimes, I give it a few days before I do replies.

However, I try not to let anything sit for longer than four days without a reply. At that point, I feel like I'm letting my coposters down and holding things up. I will admit that my Triad stuff gets priority over the other two clubs I'm in and I have more post traffic here than elsewhere. It's just easier somehow.....

But yeah...writing is my yoga/vegging/happy state usually. and when I am absolutely exhausted, I don't do anything and I sleep. Then the next day when I get time, I catch up.
