Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah,  "YOI OTOSHI O" (Have a Happy New Year) everyone!

My grandmother's family came from Alaska, and some of our cousins have moved back to their "roots".  That side of the family also has a crazy sense of humor.  So in my immediate family, we don't have mistletoe hanging around the house.  No, we have two dried and perfectly preserved moose pellets tied to some fake green leaves, and every year when we were kids, we fought over who would get to hang the "moose-l-toe"!

Any wacky or fun holiday traditions anyone out there wishes to share?

It's not a crazy family story, but for those who don't know yet, Ames' boyfriend proposed to her today and they're to be married!

when my daughter was three, she dove under the table when Santa came and stayed there whole of his visit!  :santa:

Well, according to every Japanese student I ever talked to, Santa lives in Finland.  Might he be a neighbor of yours?  :santa:

Paula

He lives up in the North, at Lapland, place called Korvatunturi.
Lot of japanese tourists come to Finland, especially Lapland, to see northern lights and Santa.

If you're seen the movie "Rare Exports" you might not want to meet the real finish santa....

Great, now I've got a mental picture of him and Harri Olli on the piss...  >.<

I miss the northern lights. Hmmm I always loved the whole thing Sweden did with St Lucia and the lights. It was so pretty.
Holiday traditions... after everyone eats and does gifts and all the family sit down and tell stories. Like the time Dale got lost when he went hunting in some swamp/pasture property and he finally got rescued. Or when the Army lost Papa on the boat coming back from Europe. When Mom's crazy boyfriend had to be threatened with a gun to get off the property...

Anyway yeah, fun times.  :santa:
we also load up in vehicles and drive down this group of neighborhoods called Christmas Tree Lane. There's a marked driving tour and all the homes are decorated up and some of the people dress up as santa or do carols on the lawn or hand out hot choco and candy to the passing cars. It's pretty awesome.
