Can our ranking characters write and publish rosters?

In ::mumbles mumbles:: other clubs I've written with the ranking characters have issued monthly / sevenday assignments, for instance Wingleaders and Weyrleaders dictating the times for drills, who's on watch duty, who's doing support duty for Weyr errands etc.

Are we allowed to do these at Triad?  The 'issue' I can see is that it might be considered writing for other characters in that it obliges somebody else's character to be doing drills on morning X and watch duty on evening Y, etc.  Though the Weyrling Guide and the Dolphin Hall Daily Schedule already do this, in a way.

I'm thinking particularly of K'hetah, Leisenn, and Zharesti.

You're exactly right.  That is the reason why we have never asked our rankers to write up schedules for wingriders in the Weyrs.  The reason there are schedules for Weyrlings and apprentices is not to dictate what individuals must do, but what is expected of a group as a whole.  People want to know what kind of classes their apprentices would be in, what kind of schedule their weyrling is expected to keep.  It gives them story line ideas that they can play with as a group.  Staff members, crafters and riders have a wide variety of individual schedules that may or may not be like others with their same profession, so we don't want to tell them when they must do things other than fly Thread.  Flying Thread is another activity where everyone must all be on the same schedule.

I can understand why some PBeM have schedules like that, and if a member wants to have a schedule, they can feel free to either ask their Wingleader/Weyrleader to help them or make their own and run it by them, but we would rather keep that as an individual choice.

Is it okay if I make a schedule and keep it a secret?

You can keep a schedule for your own personas of course.  But please don't hold anyone else to that schedule unless they ask to be included on it.  

Of course, if you want to make a special event, such as a special night drill, you can submit that to your L1 as a location SL.  We have done those in the past.

Well what about wing schedules? You know, basic "Drills in the morning, lunch, drills/new skills classes in the afternoon, until 5pm" something like that?  Then we'd know when the wings would be 'working' for the dragonriders' work days and comments about when drills are, etc, can be more consistent.  Can we ask the Wingleaders to make up schedules for the wings like that?  It would be nice to have something like that.

It has been done in the past, at least I remember writing Wing-assignments for U'das. But it fell out of use because, well, lack of use.

We could have a general schedule, if not something as specific as daily rosters.  There are a couple of obvious places to locate them, if we did:

We so seldom see dragonriders working in posts - it's sometimes more 'Day of Our Lives' than 'ER' - and this may be because there's no information about their work and schedules to hang the work posts on.

As an example, DCW's location information mentions that:

"In tropical Dolphin Cove, residents learn the advantages to some tasks being handled nocturnally."

and:

"The tropical nature of Dolphin Cove means that most cooking is done to avoid the extreme heat of the daytime, and the large chilled room at the rear of the kitchens and its refrigeration equipment are essential to keeping food cooked in advance during the cool of the night from spoiling."

so it seems lots of people are working quirky hours, presumably with rests during the day.

It would be great if we had a schedule that showed dragonriders observing a siesta or similar.  And not just for dragonriders.  That daily schedule for the dolphineer apprentices is really helpful because it gives the whole Hall a structure for the day and it's not too restrictive because if you need your character elsewhere you just have to provide a reason.

Though Triad doesn't want daily rosters, along with a broader schedule they could have something like this (from a previous club, obviously needing amendment to suit) as posting hints:

there is work for the rider.

<>~ Sweep duty is in the morning only and the area to be covered will be
advised by the senior member of the Trio on the day.

<>~ Watch duty runs in three shifts; breakfast to mid-afternoon,
mid-afternoon to midnight, midnight to breakfast. Riders rostered on
watch duty are excused all other duties for that day except normal
dragoncare responsibilities. Riders with wing rank will not be rostered
on watch duty.

<>~ Drills are in the mornings from immediately after breakfast to
midday. After the midday meal all riders meet in the Wing common room
and are either taken out for more drill or released to care for their
dragons and their equipment. Only evenings are reliably free. (OOC: Please
remember this when posting!)

<>~ There is little or no free time on Threadfall days. After Threadfall
dragons have to be washed and oiled and riders have to wash and repair
their gear for the next day's drills.

So, I have another question now.  Would dragonriders really do drills every day (other than restdays and Threadfall days)?  Suddenly it doesn't make any sense to me.  Pilots during the war(s) - on whom dragonriders are based - went out when they needed to, and then rested between times.  In Triad the time between Threadfalls is admittedly very long, but still, drills every day don't make that much sense.

 8-9 breakfast
9-11 duties etc

However, it was pretty frustrating when you were only one doing it and some of the posts indicated that the writers had not read it.... (like posts set on weyr when the wing was having sweep-duties...)

I'd agree that drills every day is a bit much. Personally, I'd do 2 on, 1 off. 2 days of drills for the wing, one day of sweeprides/courier/transport duty.

(Not that I want to make schedules, because that would be work. I don't want more work. LOL)
