Adoptions & disappearances?

A while back, a new member asked to adopt the relative of one of my personas. Since we were writing partners, I agreed. Since then, this member has disappeared and has not replied to my emails. At what point can I reclaim my personas relative?

I'll pop this one over to the council forum if you don't mind Vix and we'll get back to you soon.

Jane

I'm glad you asked, Vix.  I was thinking along the same lines with some of the Sungazer crew.

I know it can be really frustrating when someone you're co-posting with suddenly drops out, even more so when its a persona that's connected to yours so closely!  However, there's really nothing that we can do right now.  When a persona is put up for adoption, you are in effect relinquishing your rights to them.  Once a persona is adopted, it is that member's property from then on.  We can't ask them to return it.

However, we have a roll-call out right now.  If that member does not answer the roll-call, then they will be listed as an inactive member and their personas will be put back up for adoption unless they e-mail the Council with specific instructions otherwise.  At that time if they become available, feel free to re-adopt them.

If there is a persona that you don't want to give up control over, but you want to allow another member to write for, we suggest you make them ONPC rather than ANPC.  That way you maintain the rights to them, but they can be written by someone and used like a PC persona.  (A good example would be Emma's Royah)

One more note , if there is a persona you want someone to adopt in the future, but you have not yet found the right member to take them, add a note at the bottom of the history that says "THIS PERSONA CANNOT BE ADOPTED WITHOUT ~~~'S PERMISSION", otherwise anyone can adopt them when they want to.

If you have any more questions, just let us know!

Jane

My question piggy-backs on Vix's, so I thought I'd add it here.

Is 'inactive' used for people who do not reply to one roll call, or two?  How far apart are the roll calls?  Or is inactive for those who say they're leaving the club?

Do different things happen to their personas depending on the situation?  When does the rank they were holding open up again?

I know it sounds awful but I have my beady eye on a position that isn't being written for and now the writer's status has gone to inactive ...  All the same, people do come back and I don't want to rush in if this writer hasn't said she's not coming back.

dither ... dither .... dither

I think that question is addressed more on a case by case basis, Jane.  Why don't you let the Council know which position you are talking about and we can answer you directly about it.  Sometimes there are special circumstances with members who have a very good reason to be LOA for an extended period.

As far as how often we have rollcalls, generally twice a year.
