Word Wrap in Email

I know this is an unusual heading for the Copost Request List, but my email client keeps stuffing up the coposts I'm doing, and I have to reformat as my word wrap in the emails seems' to be longer than anyone else's.

I did go to see if it was mentioned on the website, but there are no hard and fast rules about it apparently.  So what is the general consensus?

I work in both Tbird and OE6, and have my word wrap set to wrap at 80 characters in both.

Help me save my email sanity - am I setting it too wide or too short?

Edit: I should clarify, I use Tbird for Triad/writing and OE6 for normal emails - not switching between both for coposts. LOL

I currently am using Thunderbird and have it set to 90.

I thought 72 was a standard - that's what I'm using.  Given how often we three copost, I'm happy to move to a new tripartite standard. :laughing5:

72 is Thunderbird's default, 76 is the Outlook Express default. There are some people who have it obviously narrowere, and some wider, but either of those should be okay.

Vix

Actually, I had reset mine to 90 (I was guessing) when Kaysea's seemed to be so much wider than mine.

Well I use Thunderbird so I guess that's where I got my 'standard' of 72.  You use Thunderbird too, don't you, Vix?

Vix

Yep, I use Tbird, so if you all want to set a width, I'll conform!

Did we ever decide on a width? Are we going with Firefox default?

Mine's at 72, Thunderbird default. I've noticed that wrapping sometimes breaks in Thunderbird when I get mail from other people.

And then all the nice shiny copost replies that I get
look like
this and I would really like to know
how to fix it because it's
annoying.

Anyone know how to fix that?

I went on to the Tbird site to get some info on word wraps, and apparently the true default in Tbird is no wrap. But it sets a default at 72 for those who like to use it.

I'm easy with whatever is chosen because I only use Tbird for coposting. I use OE for normal emails.

Though I don't know how the Tbird changes will affect those who use other email forms - such as webmail.  I find yahoo only has a default setting of about 50 or so, which is why some emails come through only half a page wide.

I figure 80 is about right not too long or too short, but *shrugs* as I said before, I'm easy.

Let's go with 72 for a while, then.  If it's not curing all the problems in our lives we can always change it again. :laughing5:

Kaysea

Sounds like a plan to me.

And word wrapping to 72 characters will do that - if you just have faith!
