Counting Down. . .

Bree will be graduating tomorrow, so she'll be finished.
What about everyone else?
I know that this only pertains to those in the Northern Hemisphere, but are you counting down the days?

Ok, I finished as a student in February, but my teaching job continues.
However, only 15 more workdays!

Last kid day is May 24th.
Staff clean-up day is May 25th.
Then DONE!

I'm counting down to my wedding! November 17th, 2007! Thouggh, we're getting legally married at the end of this month.

But, yeah... Nov. 17th!

Let's see, my last day for my school contract is May 24, but I'm picking up clients in an outpatient clinic the following week. Still it will take a couple of weeks to build back up to full capacity so I'll have a bit of a breather!

Perhaps in the US, but not in New Zealand. I've never heard of it and can't imagine why it would be done that way.

My husband and I did that! He was in the military at the time and was looking at possible deployment to Desert Storm. I really wanted to be married before he left (which thankfully never happened). Besides the sooner we married the sooner he started receiving additional dependent benefits. Our wedding was set for months ahead and the "WEDDING" was very important to our parents, particularly his.

So we had own special and private little ceromony with a justice of the peace and then had an official wedding four months later. Never told our parents. Ended up with TWO official marriage certificates, though, because we were so set on people not finding out we didn't want to tell the pastor not to turn in the paperwork.

Kind of funny when I think about it now, but we were young and I guess it all worked out!

Interesting. From my extensive watching of American tv (which makes me an expert on your culture, btw ;o) and from this new concept of separating the act of marrying from the event of the wedding, I get the idea that 'the wedding' is some sort of rite of passage. Now I'm not sure who it's for, though; parents, bride, groom?

The few times I have seen it, or been involved, one person was in need of insurance before the actual ceremony.

Pre-existing conditions and all that stuff.

Let's see....I'm with Vix on the 15 days left until school's out. I have taken on an aide position for a 3-5yr old Special Ed class who's teacher is out on maternity leave so the kids have three new teachers right at the end of the year.

I got married at the Justice of the Peace two weeks before my wedding date so that I could have insurance coverage after my dad was laid off from his job. Only a few people know that we were married before the actual ceremony took place.

Other than that, I'm not counting down to anything. Which sucks, because a little anticipation never hurt anybody.

My uncle and his wife did it too, in the UK. They had the wedding booked and paid for, then she had a fallout with her parents. She moved in with uncle and nan, and because of the way things are in our family, they got married two days later at the registry office (he slept on the couch in the interim).

They still had the wedding four months later and by that time she and her parents were talking again.
