(want a laugh?  Mum's doing a tour of the UK while she's there, with a friend who's never been to he UK before.  One of the cities on the tour? Liverpool!!! *falls off chair laughing*  Mum was born there and lived there for 30 years, she could give the tour! LOL)

Almost everyone has Ireland on their list...

We loved Ireland when we were there during our long trip away.  What we loved about it was that it was *much* more like New Zealand than the UK was!  They built new houses and let the old ones just rot in the fields.  The roads were nice and wide.  The county was green and grassy.

In general I think liking a country because it's similar to home is one of the worst possible responses to travel, so I can only say that we must have been quite homesick by then!

I would have to pick Norway, Ireland and New Zealand. Norway, because that's where my family is from and supposedly a distant cousin still has the family "manor". Ireland, because its gorgeous and New Zealand just 'cause.

I'd like to go to Norway for the same reason :D  Although I don't think we ever had a manor...  My great-great-grandfather was a fisherman lost at sea (that's how my g-grandmother came to America to live with an uncle).  But my g-grandfather (also from Norway) had a brother who struck it rich in the Alaskan Goldrush and built a nice manor back in the old country.  It was taken over by the German's during WWII and his son became a Quisling :geek:  We don't talk about him much...

So yeah, my family comes from the Bergen and Opdahl regions.

Huh-huh, that almost neighbourhood! (And that explains the sake-drinking contest... No body can drink like scandinavians. Keeps the blood flowing during the dark, long winter. )
