My kind of luck...

It took 2 weeks for Slink's name to be revealed.

It took 16 YEARS for the old cat's name to be revealed, and even then we had to have her put to sleep before we figured it out.  Over those 16 years the vet always made out like we were failing as cat owners because we'd never named her.  You know, she ruled our household but apparently she was being deprived by being unnamed.

When we got in touch with the breeders to get the most recent cat, the first thing we asked was - Does he come already named?

Luckily for him (and us) he did!

Ok... that is a little strange, it's really hard to imagine for me. I mean, just... how can you live with someone (pets are someone!) for 16 years and not give them a name? What did you say when you talked to her (pets need conversation too!) "Hello there cat." What did your cat answer to when you needed to call her for something?

Not that you're a bad cat owner or anything... it's just so unimaginable to me! lol

Well, unfortunately my fiance is a non-cat person. :-p @ Him.

But, I'm okay with dogs too, so we're currently a foster home for a Greyhound rescue group. They're sweet pups, and even for being on the larger side they're awesome in apartments! We're getting our next pupper next weekend on the 10th.

I have to agree with Amanda -- it was very difficult for that two weeks, not knowing what to call Slink. "Buddy" and "tough guy" only go so far.
The way he finally revealed his name was in the way he'd move toward his favorite hiding space when I surprised him by walking into the house. He still slinks around quite a bit, though now I think that his middle name is "Skritch."

After a while it was unimagineable that she should be named.  She just *was.*  As for calling her!  Open the fridge door and she was there.  You think she needed a name for that?

The kitten now has a name... Andy. I went through a whole punch of potential names before I finally settled on something. I swear I also read the baby name book I got to help me figure something out from cover to cover! My mom immediately asked "Andy, like as in a nickname for Andrea?" Since she will probably would have be refered to by her full name if I gave her one, I am sticking with the shortened version Andy.  :cat:

Yeah, when I was 10 I got a cat for Christmas.  When my mom asked me what I wanted to name her I said that I wanted to name her Cassi.  My mom said that was too short of a name, so thought about it for a second, shrugged and I said "Ok, Cassiopeia, but I'll still call her Cassi."

Mike and I named our cats and then they grew into their names.

Puck is a pain and gets into everything.

Pandora only gets into boxes. Especially when we don't want her to.

Most of the time poor Dora doesn't live up to her full name though. :D She's always just Dora.

We always named our pets right away... Usually based upon some physical characteristic of the animal. My dog I had growing up was Muffin cause she was the color of a cornbread muffin. Another dog we had before Muffin was Skittles, cause he had all these skittle sized spots all over. My sister's dog is named Domino cause she's got a series of spots on her head that look like a domino. My dad's dog is Merlin cause he's a miniature schnauzer and with his eyebrows and whiskers he looks like a bit like a wizard. lol

My grandmother named her newest cat Rosey cause she's always been nosey, having to poke her head into everything... if I had a dollar for every time I've had to get her out of the dishwasher or fridge cause she climbed in when the door was opened.... And Rosey rhymes with nosey. *G*

Kitten name update: Andy didn't stick. Have named her Sina instead.  :cat:
