Leaving the Triad Timeline

Often the decision has to come that a member has to leave the Triad Timeline. Either the club(s) just don't fit a member's needs, RL has reared its ugly head, or in the worst case scenario, disciplinary action has been taken to remove membership. Thankfully the last doesn't happen often, but in all cases of exiting the club, the following rules apply.

Disappearing Members

It is a member's responsibility to keep their email address up-to-date and to notify the Conclave when they are quitting the club. Members who disappear without telling the Conclave they are quitting the club or whose emails go unanswered for long periods of time are considered to have abandoned their personas. A member is considered to have "disappeared" if the following occurs:

1. Emails to the known email address over a two month period go unanswered.
2. Emails to the known email address bounce back as undeliverable for one month.
3. The mailing list sets an email address to 'no mail' due to repeated undeliverable email, and the member does not reply to emails within one month of the mailing list change.
4. The member does not reply to the periodic roll calls and does not contact the Conclave to be resubscribed within two weeks of the roll call deadline and unsubscription.

Should a member be considered to have abandoned their personas, they have given up the rights to those personas. Such personas will be placed up for adoption, and become the property of a new owner if adopted.

If at any time a member returns due to an unexpected absence and finds personas on the adoptable list, they may petition the Conclave to have them returned to their ownership (if they wish to rejoin) or removed to the archive (and therefore unadoptable). Requests should be polite or they will not be considered.

Any member who has lost their personas due to abandonment is more than welcome to recreate those personas in any other Pern club, so long as the new club is willing to take a recycled persona. Neither text nor html files will be provided. It is a member's responsibility to keep personal copies of all persona sheets and data.

Resigning Membership, Non-Ranking Personas

If for any reason a member feels the need to resign membership, they have the following options for their personas:

1. Place as many (or as few) as they like up for adoption. If the persona has family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate still being played actively in the club, those family members will be given priority to either adopt or approve future adoptions of the persona.

2. Personas can be transferred to other locations. The member can either write them out or just request that any other members refer to them as transferred. Transfer reasons must
be within club canon. Please be considerate of any other members writing for family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate. Allow them the option of adoption, or at least coordinate the storyline with them. All transferred family members are permitted brief ONPC appearances in future storylines for the members who own the persona(s) still active in the club.

3. Personas can be killed off, within club canon, but only with the local Level One's permission. The local Level One will consider many variables, including current storylines and whether or not the persona has existing family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate. If there is no local Level One, Conclave permission must be sought. This isn't to be controlling, but to keep locations within their proper scope. After all, a member with 10 personas at one Weyr would need an epidemic to kill off that many at once, and an epidemic or similar disaster _always_ counts as a major storyline needing approval. Please be considerate of any other members writing for family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate.

4. Any mixture of the above three choices.

Any member who is leaving the Triad Timeline is more than welcome to recreate those personas in any other Pern club, so long as the new club is willing to take a recycled persona. This applies even if the member leaves a persona up for adoption in the Triad Timeline (he/she will just have a clone out there somewhere). Neither text nor html files will be provided. It is a member's responsibility to keep personal copies of all persona sheets and data.

Resigning Membership, Ranking Personas

Due to the nature of ranking personas' exits affecting many other personas, they must be handled differently when a member leaves the Triad Timeline.

If any ranking persona is placed up for adoption, the Conclave will have to approve any future adoption. If the persona has family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate still being played actively in the club, those family members will be given priority to either adopt or approve future adoptions of the persona.

In any transfer or death considerations, please be considerate of any other members writing for family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate. Allow them the option of adoption, or at least coordinate the storyline with them. All transferred family members are permitted brief ONPC appearances in future storylines for the members who own the persona(s) still active in the club.

1. Level Four personas can follow the non-ranking persona rules.

2. Most Level Three and Two personas should consult with the local Level One. If there is no local Level One, Conclave permission must be sought. In most cases a transfer can be arranged, with reasons within club canon. Death must have the Level One's permission, and fit club canon. See the remainder of the rules for exceptions to rule #2.

3. Level Three goldriders should be transferred out. Death is a very rarely approved option.

4. Level Five goldriders must be given up for adoption. Please do not request this rank if you feel you could not return the persona to the club upon leaving.

5. All other Level Five personas must either be transferred or given up for adoption.

6. Level Two Lady Holders and Senior Weyrwomen should be given up for adoption. Death is a very rarely approved option, and transfer of any sort even rarer.

7. Level One personas are preferred to be placed up for adoption. Rare exceptions are made.

If having someone write for a persona you created is bothersome, the following can be considered:

Hallmasters - transfer is preferred, usually for a promotion, or due to illness. Death is permitted occasionally if other storylines are not adversely affected. The Conclave will consider many variables, including current storylines and whether or not the persona has existing family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate, before approving a death or transfer storyline.

Weyrleaders - if the senior gold is due to rise, the Weyrleader can be placed into temporary Conclave ownership. After the gold flight, the persona will be quietly and respectfully transferred to another NPC location. Death is permitted (in Threadfall or due to illness) if the senior gold is not due to rise with 3-4 months of the member's exit from the club. Any unusual death must be approved by the Conclave. The Conclave will consider many variables, including current storylines and whether or not the persona has existing family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate, before approving a death or transfer storyline.

Lord Holders - the Conclave respectfully requests that no member make a Lord Holder persona who is not willing to see the persona pass into new hands. Lord Holder deaths are rarely allowed, and abdication on Pern as rare as white dragons are. This rule isn't to annoy anyone who wants a Lord Holder, but to protect each Hold's continuity of storylines and ensure those left behind continue to enjoy the Hold location. The Conclave will consider many variables, including current storylines and whether or not the persona has existing family members, a spouse, or a weyrmate, before approving a death or abdication storyline.

Of current Lord Holders, only _one_ was created by the writer who currently owns him. Two Lord Holders have died in active storylines, and this is not a tale that bears repeating again.
