I couldn't find a thread with this already so share where you come up with your persona and dragon name inspirations!!

Br'elt was originally Bricelt, some random NPC in FF14 that I just thought would be funny to port over to Pern.

S'yen, Y'dran, Seriaeth, and Aluneth all come from Warcraft in some form. The first three names are players and I just fiddled with their names a bit. Aluneth comes from the moon goddess Elune.

Vaile's name came up because I wanted a one syllable lady greenrider name one day.

O'dyn, Hesbia, Juvelyas, and C'uren are all a group effort creation thanks to the "let's roll a Candidate" dice game that I like to do.

And a long time ago, in a Pern club far, far away, A'len and Tirenth were the first bronze pair I ever wrote. My friend named them for me.

Aydhan
My original Pathfinder character was a half-elf named Aodhnait, which is an Irish name that's derived from "fire" or "fiery". Aodhnait is often anglicized to Aidan, but I was a little creative and she went by Emmett instead. I wanted to keep the name when I ported her over for the Weyrwoman 2nd contest last year, so I did a variation of Aidan and got Aydhan instead.

Emmett is a cult leader that worships the goddess of undeath and hedonism. To give that similar "darker divine" type, I went for epithets of Aphrodite. Epitumbidia Aphrodite (she upon the graves) and Tymborikhos (grave-digger Aphrodite), and I ended up liking Tymborikath the best!

M'thos and Varethos were directly ported from an old game I used to play about 10 years ago. M'thos was a candidate and Impressed in that game. Fianwyth was from a King Arthur-inspired clutch, and she's based on Queen Guinevere.

Aleriand's name ported from the same game, but he's not the same character. I just really liked it.

Q'vettan I had workshopped with Dusk, because I wanted him to have completely changed his name when he Impressed at twelve. He and his dragon have ridiculous, unnecessary spellings because he was twelve and thought he was being cool. Now he's 50 and has to live with his life choices.

Devin

Loseth's name comes from Lost because N'vanik's concept was "what if Sawyer on Lost was a dragonrider?"

Sebeth's name comes from the Ancient Egyptian word for star "seba".

Menanth is one of the many mangled attempts young Devin made at trying to pronounce "Mnementh".

For R'lor I wanted some echo of either Mandalorian or Din Djarin since that was his inspiration.

Corrin

I was WONDERING about the Menanth/Mnementh similarity!

All my names are pretty much just sounds I liked.

Oriath is very vaguely from Orion.

Sybana is because I vaguely remembered these two princesses in the Prince Valiant comic. They were depicted as two different kinds of beautiful, one blond and bright and bubbly, the other more of a raven haired femme fatale. I vaguely remembered the blond being called Melody or something and the burnette having an "S" name. So that inspired me wanting an S name for Sybana. Clearly her and Meledei need to hang out now.
