Is anyone else doing Nanowrimo this year? I'm doing it for the first time since I failed royally in 2017. I'm hugely behind (I'm only at 11k!) but I am _writing_ and feels real good! I'm yvomp on there - we should be buddies!

Miriah

Never done it. I don't think I have the patience :(

Avery

I am not doing it this year. I have done Triad-specific half-Nos in the past where I tried to output 25k of material in my halves of coposts+solo posts!
they/them/theirs! My Personas

Estelle

I think I've come to the conclusion that if I couldn't complete Nano when I was a student, I'm never going to manage it with a job. :) I'm really impressed by people who can!

Can you tell us anything about your story?

Yvonne

It's been at least 8 years since I wrote anything longer, so this has been both a challenge and a lot of fun so far. :)

I'm doing a straight-up scifi adventure starring an antisocial cargo pilot and a stow-away thief who eventually team up and take down a corporation that's enslaving its employees. Basically I wanted to write about space-friends and the problems with capitalism.  :shhh I'm 25k words in with about 16k of those written during Nano. I feel pretty good about it!

Miriah

Oooo...a twisted Firefly. I want to read this :D

Yvonne

I admit it... I freakin' love Firefly. <3 And I'd be happy to let people read it, or read along. It might give me the kick in the pants I need to write more consistently! (although it is SUCH A MESS - continuity errors and switched up names everywhere!)

LOL, this is me when I am writing something lengthy. I get into it and then I'm like "Wait... did I say he had gray eyes or blue eyes.... dammit." Then the character ends up with six different eye colors before I'm finished. I know, I know, writing a persona sheet first would be smart, but I never do :P

Good luck, Yvonne! It sounds fantastic!

Estelle

I'm a Firefly fan too (in fact I think it was someone from Triad who recommended it to me, back in the old days...) The story sounds amazing and I would love to read it!

Devin

I decided to start doing NaNo on Nov 8th. LOL. Now I'm at 40k, thanks almost entirely to doing writing sprints with people in my region. We've been leaning more into virtual the last few years and started a Discord I think two years ago. So they were ready to hit the ground running this year.

Yvonne

Wow Devin, I'm so impressed! You write like the wind. :) I shared a synopsis for my draft, would you be willing to share yours?

Devin

Um so my book is about a necromancer who raises an army of vengeful dead from the victims of plague and oppression to overthrow a tyrant. *cough*

Yvonne

Very topical! Is it a sequel?

Devin

It's a totally new book that I came up with after the first idea I tried didn't hold my interest. Really leaning hard into the "pantsing" thing this year. LOL. None of my characters even have names... except the horse I totally stole from Skyrim.
