Weather wierdness

Okay, it's 07:15 GMT. And here in northern England it is -7c, and according to the internet it is -2c in Moscow.

Translated, it's bloody cold!

It's actually too cold to snow here, because when it's this cold, it's usually clear

And out in my time zone, we've been hitting the low- to mid-50s Fahrenheit for the past few days.

In December.

In COLORADO.

My puppy is loving being able to take walks again, of course, but I think I might actually be in some kinda bizarro-world.

And it snowed here this past weekend, and we rarely get snow here this early in December (usually it's late January/early Feb)

I'm looking out the window at around 6" of snow with more to come - but that's normal for upstate NY!

Now  we are getting snow too. Wet,  heavy snow that fells trees (over train tracks naturally). I hope they won't cancel all my trains.

In southern Japan we're still seeing fall leaves.  A lot more bare trees than last month, but still a lot of color on the hills and mountains.  But it's 33F (0C) right now, and the next couple days are going to have highs in the 40sF (6/7C).  It's a little cold for this time of year, but a snow flurry around New Years is not unheard of. 

Snow that sticks, though is!  I remember once I was in a classroom at a junior high and suddenly big fluffy flakes started falling and class was basically over right then and there.  The kids could not remember ever seeing snow like that in their lives.  It stuck on the ground and as soon as the bell rang, those kids were running for the door.  It had all melted by the time I went home that afternoon, but I watched a stream of elementary school kids all carrying a large snowball home with them to keep for as long as they could as a reminder of that amazing sight.

I have to go up into the mountains to see snow around here. (Southern California)  Well it did snow once when I was a kid.

Snow flurries were last seen in San Diego on February 14, 2008 around 1,700 to 1,800 feet (520 to 550 m), and the last measurable snowfall to hit various neighborhoods and suburbs around the city fell on December 13, 1967.

*sigh* I'm not a huge winter lover, but winter went missing in western Canada. It's been about 3C to 10C the last two weeks with no end in sight. I want to go cross-country skiing, darn it! This weather is seriously weird. Everything is brown, icy and dirty.

I'm hoping we still get a white Christmas, but mostly 'cause I know it'd mean a lot to my nieces and nephew. Stuff like that means so much at childhood. (I remember it meaning a lot as a kid, anyway.)

We don't get a crisis over a snowflake but almost ten inches at once does cause inconviniences!

Yeah, Seattle too.  I grew up in Eastern Washington where we had to walk to school through snow up to our waist and they didn't close the school until the windchill went down to -60F.  But in Seattle an inch of snow will shut the whole town down.  It's really hilarious to watch people trying to drive on the hills!
