Okay I know they have been listed before but I couldn't find them and it's late and I'm probably not looking in the right place for them and I'm rambling on like a river.

What are canon words for calling someone a 'bitch'?

I know there are some but all a can think of at the moment is something to do with wherries.

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thank you.

The best list online:
http://www.pern.nl/archives/sayings.htm

And yes, some standard Terran swearing is fine.  Just don't use a Terran term when a Pernese one would work just as well.

Example:

F**k it - no point when "Scorch it" works just as well.  It also gets you wierd looks when you use it in RL.  *eg*

Shit - no point really - Shells or Shards works nicely.

Etc.

But no "curse slang", PLEASE - like "mofo".

From the DLG:

"Pernese swear words do not pertain to sex or religion, since the former is not considered to be dirty, or concealed as unnatural, and the latter simply does not exist in the society. Instead, exclamations denote danger, the Red Star, oaths of binding, excretory functions, and inconveniences."

So you could probably make up your own oaths within those restrictions...the DLG also mentions that some religious phrases have survived although their meaning is forgotten ("Jays" from "Jesus" and "by all that's holy" are mentioned).

Whether in the Holds where female repression is most severe and people are expected to remain faithful to one partner, some expressions relating to unfaithfulness/promiscuity ("slut", "whore", etc.) would be used, I don't know...or would they have been forgotten altogether and never resurrected?

"Wherry" or "tunnelsnake" is the closest I can think to bitch that I'm certain are permissable...if that's not strong enough then perhaps you could add some adjectives such as "vicious" or "poisonous" or describe the character "spitting" or "hissing" the words to add to the effect?

I keep thinking that after the events of the 9th pass "Kylara" would be the strongest epitath against women.

Please make allowances for spelling and being 5 miles from my books

I'm curious, why wouldn't bitch be used?

I'm not the kind of person who really curses or even likes to curse, but a bitch is a female dog.  Now, I know that in Pern they aren't called dogs, they are called canines, but wouldn't certain terms still come down through the ages?  Especially with beastcrafters who would refer to the canines of the female persuasion?

Actually, Trilby, I've used (and seen it used) that one in reference to both female canines _and_ a few rather annoying female personas.  *g*

And bastard has been used in both the illegitimate aspect and the slur.

I don't recall either in the books, but I somehow doubt in our post-AIVAS world a few might not have crept back into usage.
