Death's caused by animal

in addition: 32 horse-riding accidents, 97 deaths involving elk/car crash (moose for you us/can) and 9 other car/animal crash-deaths (deer, reindeer, horse)

I'm really curious about the cows! Were they all "I drove my car into them and they crushed me"?

I have no idea, propably more like: I went to barn/pasture and they crushed me.

Oh, that makes sense. I was imagining a cow, like, going nuts and goring someone to death. I guess that would have to be a bulls.

It always amazes me how few deaths are actually caused by animals. We usually have one or two people killed by a bear in Canada per year, but given the size of the country, it's still small.

More frightening (to me) are the traffic related deaths. Cars are so convenient and we've built our cities so that we can really only get around by car, and so as a (global) society we've decided that a certain number of traffic fatalities per year is perfectly acceptable.

Yes, cars kill so much more people than animals. A wolf is bigger risk for your housepets than to you (so keep your dogs in leash and don't let the cats out). Lynx also kills a cat it catches.

Yes, here in Southern California, we have cayotes in our hills and ravines.  its a quite hilly countryside.  You must be careful to keep small pets inside at night or you won't see them again.

Up higher in the mountains there are mountain lions... 'nuff said.

**Just a little aside, Elk and Moose are two different animals in North America. While the Eurasian Elk is a subspecies of Moose the Elk native to North America and Asia is a different species altogether. They are the same family but different subfamily, genius, and species.  So Yeah... she's talking about crashing into what in North America would be a moose.

We also have cougars (aka mountain lions) in the... mountains, and coyotes are pretty well urban animals now. They live in our river valley. My husband spotted two at the end of our block in the fall. It's neat how we built our own environment, and now other animals are adapting to it too! I hear that the foxes have moved in too but I've never seen one.

Hares are pretty common sight on your lawn. We also have urban foxes, city-bunnies (decendants of pet rabbits let loose) and urban Eagle owls.

There's a den of foxes in the park around the corner from my place. They're smart - they've learned to use traffic lights to cross the road - seriously! I think they do it top down rather than by colour though - as in if the top light is on, stay put, if the bottom is on, go.

I've spotted bunny holes as well, I think there's a colony in the park.

There are Llamas in the animal centre in Heaton Park, do they count?
