Hello everyone

I am a total newbie to Triad Weyrs, reeled in by Chelle. I've been writing Pern pbem for the better part of the last eight years, most of it at Arolos, but it's always good to try out new places! I live in the Netherlands and English is not my native language. Though I have been writing English for as long as I've been reading Pern, I can still make mistakes and love those people who point them out to me nicely I'm 22 years old and teach high school, a job I absolutely adore (teenagers are awesome, people, honestly). For now I'm waiting to hear who my mentor will be (I applied last weekend, does anyone know how long it usually takes?) and once I have got my first character set up, I'd love to post with you guys! From what I heard from Chelle, I'm going to love it here.

As far as your application, I'm very sorry, I'm head of the Persona Approval team, but I never saw it in my inbox...  We'll get you a mentor right away!  (Which might mean in a couple days considering the holidays and all...)  Did you apply for a persona or just for a mentor?

I would have to agree about the teenagers.  Over the last 8 years I've taught English to kids ranging from 5 to 75, and I would have to agree that teenagers are the best!  What subject do you teach?

Oh, thank you! I didn't send in a persona yet, figured it might be a good idea to discuss it with my mentor first. Then again, maybe I'll send it in anyway, as the poor guy has been staring at me all week, wanting to get sent in.

I teach Latin and Greek, which means I get a pretty motivated crowd to begin with. It's making the subject come alive which is the big challenge with teenage kids, especially with a subject like mine. It's a wonderful challenge, though, and a true victory when you succeed

I took a little Latin in college.  It's a fascinating language!  Though I forgot everything I learned.  But I do try to teach my adult students the Latin prefixes and suffixes in English.  I'm lucky that I don't teach in the same school every day.  I teach at a 12 junior high schools (when I'm not sent to an elementary or kindergarten school), so when I go I get to mostly just have fun with the kids playing English games.  If you have any good language games, I'd love to learn some new ones!  I find it very effective in reviewing what their regular teacher has just taught them.  They seem to remember better if they have a bit of fun with it ;)

Oh, I'll think on that. I have a folder somewhere with some language games in it. When I find it again, I'll see if there's anything good in it. I always try to make my lessons as fun as possible, because what you say is so true! And I heard back from my mentor already, thanks for the quick fix!

Len, I'm not sure I can find a logical persona for my dolphineer to interact with right away, is there any kind of persona you'd like to NPC at the DH?

Paula, I see you have an apprentice at the DH, maybe she can meet my Naton sometime?

Honestly, I will happily NPC any type of character you need.  Just type up a starter and tell me who/what I'm playing :P

If you DO want a PC Sh'del is right next door, at Dolphin Cove Weyr, and G'wen (over at Dragonsfall) is on transport duties at the moment, as he's too weak from his 'score to join a wing, but his green is fine to carry people/loads to different places.  So if you want a brown and/or a green rider, they're both willing and happy to be posted with!
