Hello Triadians!

The Council has decided to do away completely with the Level Five rank.  Retired goldriders who had previously been L5 are now L4, and female crafters who were made Masters in their craft BEFORE THE CRAFTBAN (they must be older than 70 turns old) are now level 3.

Personas that were once part of special storlines that were disturbing on an emotional or mental level are now L3 for the duration of their storyline.  The policy on such storylines has been clarified and can be found here.

If you have any questions about the changes, please feel free to ask!

I have a (much belated) question about this.

When the female master crafters were mentioned in the old Level 5 rules the rule was that "Any female crafter under age 65 in a female-banned craft NOT at a Weyr or Printer Hall" [my bold] would carry Level 5 rank.  This made sense because they were characters who were in some way circumventing the craftban - and effectively the whole Triad scenario.

But in the announcement quoted above the group that the rank was applied to was changed, suddenly targeting the female master crafters who were completely in accordance with Triad's scenario:

"... and any woman who already had her mastery would have retained it (she'd also be about 72 or older).... and if you want a female master aged 72+, odds are you'll get it just for braving to write something more than teen-land Pern we all know and love." (Ref: http://www.triadweyrs.org/faq.php?fq_id=515)

I'm a bit puzzled about the reasons for the change in target group.

Given that this was done more than 4 years ago and closer to 5 I can't even begin to tell you why. But over time the club has moved 7 turns. So I'm kind of assuming here but it probably has to do with the aging population.

After All 65+ at the beginning of threadfall or after the Plague would put them into their 70's or even older by the current RP date.

This is the problem with long lived sites... rules have to change to make the timing consistent.  I hope that's a satisfactory theory, but without searching through the archives, I don't really have a way of coming up with a more concrete answer.
