white january?!?!?!?

Ths is what happens when it snows in North-West England.... There are 6" already on the ground and it is still snowing, I've been as far as the postbox and the newsagent on the corner and counted 5 abandoned cars and only 2 open shops.

Reminds me of Texas last month. :}

Until you try to get anywhere.... I have a feeling that I won't be able to move my car again and there are no buses running because it isn't safe /drivers can't get to the depots. The trams are running to an emergency time table and there are no trains going to the station over the road from my office, which adds up to another day of unpaid holiday....

Having said that, they closed our office yesterday, and I suspect it may be closed again today.

I feel your pain, Emma!  I had to take unpaid leave when I had the swine flu last month :P

My sister-in-law and her family stocked food for week before the snow came in... They neighbour had only food for two days...(especially the milk-thinggy for a baby). And I hear that the grocery-stores have lot of empty shelves (hard to get restocked I suppose).

We have lot of snow too, but it doesn't stop the whole country.

The problem we've got is this much snow was unexpected. And according to the weather man, it's Scandanavia's fault - a band of their weather is 'stuck' over us.  It is -14c (7f) this morning, which is colder than it has been for 30 years, I don't remember that too well.

Today, I'm off to try the buses to see if I can get to my office to pick things up to take home that will keep me busy until Monday....

We had the UK weather on the news last night.  It looks very snowy in areas that don't usually get much.

I've only been snowed in once in New Zealand (in the main city in the South Island, Christcurch) and then the Police got on the radio asking everybody to stay away from work.  While many parts of the city were without power (and because of the smog problem in the flat, pretty much wind-free city, most open fires and log burners have been banned, and gas isn't pipped to homes in the South Island) for a couple of days we weren't, and we had one of the approved log burners.  For us it was magical! LOL

This morning the nearest weather centre is reporting a current temperature of -17c (2f). There was more snow overnight. The Greater Manchester Public Transport Executive advice can be seen here - my bus is running into the city and the train is delayed, so I'll be late to work again, and I got home at 8:15 pm last night due to going to the Physiotherapist on the way home..
