My dad

My father has a brain tumor, as I off-handedly mentioned in LOA-forum. It was discovered during last month, about three-four weeks ago, when he got epilepsy-like seizure at night. He's going to brain surgery today, hopefully they will get it removed and it's not too malignant. The tumor is about five centimeters in diameter (about two inches) and in such place it only affects the use of his left leg and arm. The doctor is optimistic. I'm worried. So, keep you thumbs up, fingers crossed or what ever you do for good luck for him.

Paula, if the doctor is optimistic about the tumour then you can probably believe him.  I've had a cousin (60s) and my husband's aunt (70s) recently with the exact same thing; they've had slightly different recoveries but have basically been fine.  In both cases they were told the tumour had probably started 40 years ago and not shown up until it got big enough to interfere with the brain.  Amazing!

(And sorta scary that we could already have such things growing away slowly inside us and we have no idea.)

Anyway, we'll be thinking of you and your dad.  Best wishes for the op and the recovery.

I got phone call after the surgery from dad's spouse (who is not my mother, they are divorced). The operation went well. Accorind to the quick test, the tumor is class 2 (on scale 1-4 in which 4 is the worst). *sighs in relief* Of course the final pathology report will come after two weeks.

*hugs* How frightening! Your poor dad. :( I'm glad that the operation went well, though, and that the doctors are optimistic. I'll be thinking about you...

My dad was released from hospital yesterday. They sent him home to recover. They really don't keep patients in very long.
