Forum Upgrade Coming

Hello folks, from your mostly-retired web monkey!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am going to put some time aside in the next few weeks to try to move the boards over to phpBB3.  It's been a long time coming, but due to our board modifications, including the marks system, it could be a bit of a mess when we finally get down to doing it.

A few things are going to be happening over the next few weeks.  The first thing is that I'm going to be getting some people to help me transfer everyone's mark totals over to the website so that we don't lose your member rewards in case of a crash.  Of course, if you keep replying, you're going to keep earning more, but I'll make up for that by giving everyone a "house warming gift" to replace the marks you lost once I get into the new place.  (And it'll be higher than any of you could have earned in the intervening time.  :D)

When the time comes for the upgrade, I'm going to be closing down the boards for a few days while I transfer everything over and try to get it set up.  It's possible it could all work out in just a few hours, but I'm planning for the worst.  LOL

The new version of phpBB will have a lot of interesting features, so hopefully once we get settled in we'll be good to go.  (We'll also have fewer spam accounts trying to sign up, which will make life so much easier!)

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask them here!  Otherwise I'm hoping to do this within a week or two.

When the boards are down, which method of communication would you all prefer, the livejournal or the yahoo group?

If you go into your User Control Panel, you should be able to decide between this theme and the older style.  :D  I'm still working out the bugs, but there are a lot of new features, so poke around until you find them!

Am I just an old stick-in-the-mud that I like the old style of display better?  But I like the new features and look, just prefer the pics on the left.

Nah, I like the old one, too.  :D  But the new style displays the new features better, so I figured everyone could decide on their own!

Glad you've all made it in one piece!

I'm keeping an eye on the marks modification that they're working on for version 3.  When I think it's stable enough, I'm going to install it and give everyone a big housewarming gift.  :D
