Fibers question

Since this is the member inquiries section, I thought I'd ask here.

I was looking through my DLGTP book on what sort of things were imported. Various crops were imported, some surviving, some not. You all know this, of course. ;) I didn't find anything about cotton, though. Or about silk. Are cotton and wool the only two fibers that are used for clothing? What about silk?

Also, would the weaving technique to turn cotton into sateen still be around? If silk is around, would the Pernese still have the knowledge to weave it into satin?

I'm assuming any synthetic fibers, such as nylon, would not be around. :-D

And DLG does mention both: cotton survives but is a luxurey fabric. Silk didn't make it. Wools are harvested from llamas (Yay!) and sheep.

Ah, I must have missed it somehow. I must admit, it was rather late when I was looking through it. :-D

What, then, would be the most common fiber used? Isn't wool rather hot and make that hard to wear in warmer areas or during the Summer?

Or is that in the book and I just missed it too? Feel free to give me a page number and just tell me to read.

I use the DLG second edition. Pages 134 and 135 contain quite a bit about cotton, silk, and sisal.

I'm pretty sure Triad has allowed silk in the past. I can't see why we wouldn't allow sisal.

Silk? Really? DLG and Dragonsdawn are very specific about the death of the silkworms.

Maybe they found some survivors when the moved south? Who knows. I just remember seeing it at some point. I suppose the Council can make a definitive decision (though I haven't read Dragonsdawn since it came out and I have never seen a copy of the DLG so I would be no help there...)

Well, Triad does deviate from canon in some aspects. Would this be something to consider deviation from the books?

Did that make any sense?
