DCW Hurricane

as alot of you know, DCW is getting hit with a major hurricane on m3 d19.  Its going to hit right on and have a huge storm surge, flooding the lower caverns and the hatching grounds.  

The FIRST control post is out!! Thanks Cali and Patrick and Eimi There are going to be several more, so wait a bit.  The second one and third copost will be tomorrow!

I am trying to post most of the posts myself to keep the timeline straight, but I wanted to encourage all of you to plan a way to get involved with this storyline.    

It will be cross-weyr between DFW and DCW, and obviously, the DCW Crafthalls are both going to be hip deep in wreckage.  

Once all the control posts are out (probably by this Friday the 20th), I think everyone is fine to post their coposts.   IF anyone has ANYTHING unusual in their coposts that affect more than just a few people, please send it to Dana and myself so we can look at it.   Alot of work went into the planning of this, and we want to make sure the timeline stays fairly clear.   If it only affects a few personas, post away once we give the word.  

The last control post will have in great big letters "HAPPY STORMY DAYS!"

General timeline FYI:

The Weyr finds out about the hurricane early (before dawn).  
10 c/m - the first bands start coming ashore, high winds, lots of rain, thunder, lightning.  The Wings are Grounded.
14 c/m - the hurricane makes landfall at DCW causing a HUGE storm surge

Following the storm surge, all the lower caverns flood and the hatching caverns.  Lots of injuries, possibility of trapped people and lots of hiding from the storm right now.

19 c/m - the storm surge begins to recede.   the Grounding is lifted.   DFW dragons come to help (perhaps, they may not come until the next day)

the rest of the evening, there is clean up, damage assessment, injuries treated, etc.

m3 d20 - THREAD

Reeling from the blow, now J'darin has to fight Thread with half a Weyr. DFW comes to help, perhaps RBW too.

However, I hope you're all seeing opportunities for coposting during this AWFUL tragedy!!!

As far as I know you didn't miss it: four of my posts are still being held by someone or several someones, so they haven't all hit the lists. And as far as coposts about the hurricane -- much of that period is unclear without an explanation or some sort of timeline.

Yeah, while you were gone a lot of other people have been LOA/LIA.  The best thing you can do is contact the L1 directly, or anyone else if you have an idea.  I have some people riding it out in the Weyr, other people running around trying to find loved ones... There's a lot you can do on your own.

If it looks like this SL will run over time, the council could talk about extending m3 for Hurricane related posts.  In fact I'll bring that up to them, since so many people are effected by RL at the moment...

Ah.  Well, I know the eggs can't be moved until their hardened, so probably not until m4.  As far as power, you can be sure there'd be plenty of glows, so unless they were working in the deepest part of the Weyr there would be light available, unless you need it for something else...  Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be e-mail Clancey and/or Dana directly if you have an idea for a sl and need to know a date or damage report for something.

It was very difficult for me to manage all the details of the hurricane day combined with my admin work here (which suffered a little too), two jobs and a busy life, but I have done the best I could do.  

We will have a relatively general timeline for after, and there is only one more control post to go up before everyone can post whatever they want.

Also the dolphin hall has been free for posting for a while now, Cali gave the clear for that a while back.  

In general, there will be alot of digging out from under all the damage.   Its pretty clear what was damaged from the timeline I posted at the beginning of this thread, so anything about that - cleaning up the lower caverns, out , etc...should last a few days and into month 4 even.  

You might have emailed Dana and I in the last few days, Vix, but if you haven't please do.   Dana is trying to get through finals and I've been LIA for a couple of weeks now due to RL, but we are trying.

I know alot of people might be waiting on us and I apologize for that, but I had to put RL first.  bad timing all around.  

In fact, anyone who has concerns or questions or ideas about the hurricane can post them here or in the DCW forum or they can email Dana and I.   Jane has a ton of posts ready to go out and they will go as soon as I put out the Saving the Eggs posts.  

Its just for fun so have a little fun with the storm and if you're concerned, just ask us.

Okay folks I FINALLY posted the last of the Control posts for DCW.  


You have until the end of June to finish the month 3 posts, and also you can do month 4 posts now too!

After the Storm:

m3d20 there is Thread.  

The Weyr is NOT prepared for Thread.  Lots of injuries.   Lots of issues feeding everyone, including dragons.    The Weyrlings, I would think, are going to be super busy.

The last 9 days of month 3 will be spent cleaning up and waiting for the water to recede, which it should be all receded about 3 days after the storm hits.  

DCW has never had alot of electricity.  The only electric things are the refrigeration units in the kitchens and some minor other kitchen things.  Glowbaskets and a geothermal systeam are what works in the rest of the Weyr.

The biggest issue after the Storm is going to be food and water.    There is a shortage of non-spoiled food and J'darin will organize the Weyr residents into foraging parties most likely, to see if they can find some fresh fruits and things.    Or rather ask Ylisahn and Jyramikah to do it!

I believe he will also be asking for a little help from Emerald Falls and some of the other Holds and the other Weyrs.  

There will have been quite a few deaths, riders and Weyr residents, and the Weyrling group that died would have made everyone sad.    

There are also some heroic rescue stories to be told and some wonderful cleaning up stories.

The eggs will return to Dolphin Cove after they've hardened, so in early month 4 sometime.      This will be a cause for Celebration.   Once Dana and I actually pick the exact date, we'll make that day a Weyr-wide party.  No control posts necessary, just realize J'darin gave everyone half the day off to celebrate the return of their eggs.  

Feel free to post away with these minimal guidelines.   I appreciate everyone's patient waiting for me and I thank you!! I hope there are tons of posts!!!

There will have been quite a few deaths, riders and Weyr residents, and the Weyrling group that died would have made everyone sad.    

Just wondering whether I missed a post or three? I can't find any weyrling deaths in the posts I've had come into my mail box.  Is there somewhere that has the details?

It was in the plots, but I'm not sure if its come out in the posts yet!  If not, I'll do a solo post about it.  At one point, I thought there were some volunteers for the weyrlings but not sure!

I'll get back to you Kaysea!  But yes, there is a group that died.
