Locations

Do most writers have characters in every location?  If so, why?  Just to have somebody to put into a copost at any request?  Does anybody else have a favourite location?  Least favourite?  Is that about activity, plot, or IC factors?  

I adore Dolphin Cove Weyr because of the IC look/description of the place!  It could be a dead-for-posting zone and I'd still love it.

Emerald Falls is another that interests me IC.  Waterfalls, navigable river.  Yep, that has features that fascinate me in real life.

But I started out in River Bluff.  Not sure why.

Then yes, I did some planned creating and adopting of characters to get a few locations covered.

But generally I like to keep the characters quite consolidated in one place so I have some 'team' feeling.  :: waves banner :: "I support DCW!" - that sort of thing.

Anybody else have other reasons for creating thier characters where they have?  Anybody else have a strategy?

I only have one character so far, and he was created to give Mikel a posting partner at The Tavern. In the past I've tended to have characters at all locations.

Of course, now I need to create my second PC and am at a loss for what I want. I suppose AJ should have first shot at directing me since he's the one who convinced me to come here. How about it AJ? Where are you?

No I put my first character in DCW because a hatching was going on when I joined so it worked out.  Then I make them as it suits me and figure where haven't I put a persona in yet/recently.  So thats how my characters get distributed.  Not just random choice, but CALCULATED random choice.

My goal when I first joined was to have a persona in each location.  Now I just make personas where they fit or are needed.  Some I keep around just to be available for people to post with, but then again, I hope someday to have a plot open up for them.

Right now it's

RBW = 4
DCW = 3
DCW-DH = 1
DFW = 1

but I expect that eventually DCW will overtake the others.  I have no real intention of adding more to the Dolphin Hall or Dragonsfall Weyr.  I'm still dithering about a hold but it will probably be Emerald Falls.

I like DCW for the gorgeous description of it, and I like RBW the best of the Weyrs because it's where I would live if I could. I want to do a DH person because I grew up 10 minutes from Marineland and thus have a massive dolphin obsession. As for Holds, GVH is obviously my baby and needs more people.

I started at DCW...um...because? Actually, if you go into older club history, I started at DEW *grin*...I'll eventually have personas everywhere, because I like to diversify.

I'm... alive, at least for the moment. It's been a long week -- and a weird week. A couple of days ago I was sitting on the beach at the campus in a t-shirt, basking in the 70 degree temps, and this morning there's a couple of inches of snow and ice outside my window. *cries*

I can certainly think of a few ideas for your second PC, but the big question is whether you want to revisit something we've done in the past, try something slightly different, or try something radically different?

Nope! I have characters at about half the locations - all the Weyrs, two of the Holds, and none of the Halls. Most all of the characters I have were created to fill a gap and/or created to participate in a plotline that me and a cowriter cooked up. The only ones who weren't are Firsa, F'lin, and the adoped and underused K'nure. And two NPCs became PC's - Harki and Mariss.

Mostly I choose locations based on who has characters there and what's going on that I might possibly be able to get my sticky fingers in. Firsa I put at DFW because I know and respect winters, and also because it was recomended to me as a location by a friend.

I sort of, sort of don't have a plan. I put my first one, Eleada, at DCW, because after careful examination, it was the one that had the most need for new riders (recent history) and the emptiest wing. I figured if I liked Triad, I would eventually continue and have a character in all the weyrs to catch more coposts, and see what happened.

It resulted that way, with my shiny new WLM, but not on purpose. Basically, I have ideas in my head that eventually make it somewhere, where they land is determined by convenience or other factors. D'rue was because a hatching came up and it sounded fun, F'melar because he was screaming in my brain and wanted out anywhere, and I didn't really want him in the same weyr as Eleada. I had a few personas in mind that i was considering trying for rank about the time the incentives came out so I figured why not, and Tatitem at DFW was born.

I put D'ren at DCW because at the time it had a Hatching coming up, but I cut it a little too close and he ended up not Impressing that go-round. Heh. But it gave me a lot of storyline material, so I'm glad it turned out that way. I don't know why I stuck K'mai at RBW. Maybe it was more active at the time. N'vanik went to DFW because I didn't have a character there yet and I wanted to spread them out. I'm not big on Holds, but I'm trying to put sonas there. Zanen is doing ok.

I'm biased in favor of Dragonsfall because N'vanik is there, but location and weather wise, Dolphin Cove seems like a nice tropical getaway. I wouldn't mind a vacation there!

Mine are all over, but mostly at the Weyrs.  Counting the halls at DCW, I have the most personas in that area.

I tend to gravitate to the Weyrs, but I'm not sure why. The halls are fun, but there's just something about the holds that make it hard for me to write as much.

I tend to gravitate towards Weyrs too.  DCW is my baby  :love5:  Well, me and Clancey's  :D  And I love it with all my heart.

Yeah, me too.  I can't keep the RBW folks from making more PCs while I'm not looking, but DCW is my favourite place.
