Teseada
Teseada

Humming, it could mean only one thing. A hatching about to happen, thought D'nev as he finished oiling Shoglenth. All the bluerider could think of was whether he would be consoling his daughter in a few candlemarks time, or congratulating her.

He really hoped for the congratulations, that was what was running through his head as he slipped on cleant clothes and his boots, and asked his blue to check if they were needed for transport or other duties.

When the reply came back in the negative, he hurried to the stands watching as the candidates formed up below. There she was, a small figure robed in white like the rest.

A look of apprehension was on Teseada's face as she glanced up and spotted her father. Surely if he impressed, that would mean that dragonriding was in her blood. Today she would find her green on the sands, she had to.

Despite assurances that she was not too old to stand, and that there would be a dragon for her from all around her, the candidate was still nervous. She hopped from foot to foot, unable to keep still, which earned her a stern look from those in charge.

"Behave!" she heard hissed at her from behind.

"All right for you to say," she muttered. "You impressed already." Fortunately for her the remark went unheard as the candidates were urged onto the sands. They fell into a loose semi-circle, glancing around them and the crowds above. Surely things would start happening soon. They had to.

One more glance upwards and she caught her father's eye. He smiled at her, remembering when he himself had been there on the sands.

}:I found you,:{ came into his head from the blue.

**Yes you did, and today I'm sure that one of these hatchlings will find my hatchling.** D'nev sounded more confident than he felt. It felt as though every hatching since she was old enough to stand had brought his daughter disappointment, and he wasn't sure that she could go through that again.

Teseada's attention was dragged back to the sands as the first egg began to show signs of movement, the life of it's occupant within clearly wanting to emerge and find his or her lifemate on the sands. Gradually a crack formed and split with a tiny green making her way into the world. She made quite a noise as she came close to the candidates, searching for her match. But it was not her, the green stumbled past her and the rest of the girls she was stood near, making her way to one of the boys.

The boy seemed surprised, then a look of pure joy spread over his face, "Finth!" he called out, as he led her from the sands.

Teseada could see the Weyrlingmaster and his staff helping the boy feed the green her first meal, she was happy for him, but the dragonet had bypassed her, and she wondered why. That thought didn't hold for long though, as the other eggs cracked, shattered and broke, the dragonets taking their first unsteady steps among the remaining candidates.

Life bonds were cemented around her as pairings were made. Soon there were only a couple of eggs left on the sands, and few candidates remained. As the golden egg finally began to gently rock, all eyes focused on it, willing it to crack and allow the tiny occupant to hatch.

With a sound that defied belief, to Teseada at least, the egg finally cracked and the gold within emerged. She looked around at the girls for a few moments, before finally managing to make her way over to them. She was wobbly on her feet still, looking all the girls over with careful eyes as they stood still, letting her choose.

Her heart was in her mouth as she watched the gold, she seemed so determined to find hers. Teseada was convinced that she would go to one of the other girls, she'd be the one left to last again, the dragons had found her wanting again.

}:Want you. I want _you_!:{

"What?" Teseada looked around to find the gold at her feet. She looked into her eyes and that was it. "I want you too," she said, wonder spreading across her face. She dropped to one knee, reaching out to touch the gold, barely dreaming to believe this was real.

}:Of course I'm real, and I'm hungry.:{ The dragonette was insistent. }:I'm Onnyth, and I would like some food, please?:{

How could anyone resist that, thought Teseada as she led the gold off the sands. She was oblivious to everything else for the moment, only Onnyth mattered.
