Saibra
Saibra

She had interviewed several riders that had shown great potential and experience, but one rider, in particular, stood out as someone who could fill in for her during Threadfalls and that was the person she wanted to become her Wingsecond.

Rather than calling him back into a stuffy office to tell him, Saibra carried the Wingsecond rank knots in her coat pocket and headed out to the feeding pens where she had seen K'far earlier.

"I hope for your sake Torth eats quickly," she said, coming to stand by his side as she pulled her collar up closer about her neck to ward off the chill in the air.

K'far offered a smile and a respectful nod to Saibra as she approached. The chill was as little to his liking as it was to any who came to Dragonsfall. You could take the man out of the coast... as they said.

}:Nobody says that,:{ said Torth as he tore into his meal and swallowed it in gargantuan bites. There was a warmth in his tone that broadened K'far's smile.

**I do. And it is true.**

}:So it is. We can get out of the cold, of course. I will help.:{

"Torth says we will have you warm before a crackling fire before you know it. What can I do for you, ma'am?" he asked.

"Somewhere warm would be lovely," Saibra admitted even as she reached into her coat and pulled out the rank knots. "I know it has been a while since I interviewed you for my Wingsecond position. I wanted to tell you that I'd like for you to be my Wingsecond, if you still want to do it."

"Me?" K'far's smile was indelible. "Well, then, I'll do my best to live up to your expectations." He took the knots.

}:Don't be so dramatic. Of course, we'll do it.:{ Though Torth pretended to admonish his rider, the brown was clearly as tickled as K'far. He scarfed down the last of his meal and nodded to him.

"Should we adjourn your office? Or the Riders' Hall?"

"Let's swing by the Dining Cavern for a cup of klah and perhaps an open spot by one of the hearths." Saibra said, her breath wafting up in the frigid air in front of them.

"Of course," K'far nodded. He followed Saibra there, and once they had arrived, he offered to pour Saibra's klah.

"Cream? Sugar?" he asked. For his part, he took plenty of cream but no sugar.

"I'll take my dark and strong," Saibra said with a grin as she took a sip of the hot liquid. Her eyes closed a little as she felt the warmth of the drink spread through her belly. "So I'll formally introduce you as my Wingsecond at drills tomorrow. I think the Wing will be very pleased."

"I'm proud to have been chosen!" said K'far, cheerfully. He sipped his klah a touch more quickly, as the cream tended to cool it that much more, making it easier to start drinking as well as taking a touch of the bitter edge off. "And I'll do my best to support you and the wing. What do you expect of me?"

"I want you to learn the way my Wing flies Threadfall inside and out. Whenever I have to be grounded for clutches, you will be the one leading the Wing through 'fall. We need to be able to make seamless transitions in leadership."

"You can count on me, of course," K'far assured her. "Is there any other way I can help apart from standing ready to take over for drills and 'Fall in your absence?" he offered.

"That's honestly about it. I will have Ashela as my Weyrwoman's Second to look over the other needs of the Weyr when I am unable, and Lanniya will be our Wingthird, so she'll handle some of the more menial hidework, wing duty assignments, and so on. You will help me in divising wing formations and drills, and once you feel ready, you'll take point in leading the Wing during the second half of fall while I come back to the Weyr with Chioneth and help with the injured dragons."

"I'll learn quick," K'far promised. He was beyond excited at the opportunity and the trust Saibra was placing in him – and he was experienced and sure enough of himself to have little doubt that he could do exactly what she needed, and do it well. After all, he had been fighting Thread with Torth for longer than he had lived before Impressing.

"I have no doubt that you will," Saibra said, pleased to have finally filled out the rest of the leadership for her Wing.
