I read a TONNE of Piers Anthony when I was about 10-12. I think I read every single Xanth book out at the time, and then in an unsurprising twist became pretty decent at punning. Now I'm a really omnivorous reader. I read fantasy, some scifi, YA, romance, mystery, nonfiction, mainstream fic - if its good, I'll give it a go.

Avery - let me know what you think of Graceling! I loved it. It broke my friend, she ended up bawling somewhere public because of it.

I just gave up on Wakulla Springs because me ereader isn't charged (:P) and am now rereading Boneshaker by Cherie Priest. If you haven't read her Clockwork Century novels, I'd reccomend them!

I used to read a lot more series, but I find that I get impatient with them a lot now. Some fav BOOKS of mine, however:

When Demons Walk by Patricia Briggs is easy fantasy, and I read this probably once a year.
Perdido Street Station by Chine Meville - OMGWTFawesome! It's really dense and can be difficult to stomach, but it blew my mind.
War for the Oaks by Emma Bull - This is an old, old friend of mine, about an 80s rock band and faeries.
Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino - 'the book that launched 1000 art projects' - makes me want to travel & is great light reading for when you have, like, 2 mins at a time to kill.
Zoo City by Lauren Beukes - lady has a sloth on her back! A sloth!! <3

I could go on.

Yvonne, I'm not so much of a Pratchett fan, and more of a Stephen Baxter fan, I'd check out some of his stuff, Flood and Ark are good ones, as are the NASA trilogy and the Time Odyssey books

A few months ago I discovered John Carter of Mars. LOOOOOVE! I'm also a Dresden fan, though I'm a book behind. I love Michael Moorcock's Elric stories.
I'm currently reading the newest Darkest London book by Kristen Callihan. I have an ARC of her upcoming book that she gave to me at RT in New Orleans.

And yes, I was a Xanth fan when I was in middle school. Read almost all of them at that point.

I love Tom Clancy too though I read his Op Center series more than the others though they crept in sometimes.

Oy, don't get me started. The list of books I've read is too long to be listed. I've read Lord of the Rings in two languages...almost in three but I got bored with the swedish translation.

Does anybody else here read Patricia Brigg's urban fantasy?  Mercy Thomson-series and the Alpha and Omega -series. (I so love Charles and Anna. :love3: )

I've read all the Black Dagger brotherhood-books I've gotten my hand into and I'm fan of Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman. (Wohoo Sandman!)

Basically, your lists sound awfully familiar *G*

Currently I'm reading Sookie Stackhouse book nr 10 "Dead in the Family," and the next is waiting for it's turn. I have Anne Rice's "The Mummy" in my bag for train reading (paperback).

So, I usually read sci-fi, fantasy, urban fantasy, some horror, historical romances (I want to get my hands to the Red Queen -book), some thrillers and detective stories (Lee Child anyone? I also love Clive Cussler (Dirk Pitt  :love1: )

I've read Patricia Briggs' urban fantasy - mostly the Mercy Thompson series, although I'm behind. I get bored with series. Even good ones. *g* The Mercy books are great, though. Paula, have you read the Kitty books by Carrie Vaughn? Also great!

Becki - I have also read the Darkest London books. I loved the first one, was ok with the second, and am having trouble getting into the third book. I think that's just my book ADD though - they're really good!

Emma - I'll def check out the Stephen Baxter books! I love recs. Thanks!

So... has anyone read Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach books? I just finished the first 2 and am anxiously awaiting the third in September. Great stuff. Very weird.

They're about things that are too big to think about and drive you some crazy, and I'm not 100 sure that humanity will survive! But very interesting, and excellent writing.
