My Book Bucket List

Eimi

So I made a bucket list of 215 books I want to read before I die...  One nice thing about not being able to do much typing is that I've had a bit more time for reading, and I was able to cross "North and South" off my list during my down time at work!

Next I'm working on two more... Beowulf for my take-along book reading,  and Wuthering Heights (just for you, Dana, though that song is going to be stuck in my head every time I open it up!) is the Gutenburg Project page cued up on my work computer.

What books are on your book bucket list?  Have you been able to cross any off?  Are you working on any now?

emma

Which 'North and South'? John Jakes or Elizabeth Gaskell?

I'm have 2 books next on my reading list; 'Daniel Deronda' by George Elliot and 'The Duchess' which is a biography of the Duchess of Devonshire, it was a film recently with Keira Knightley in the title role.

Eimi

Elizabeth Gaskill.  I really had never heard of her before, but then when I had swine flu I watched the mini-series and I absolutely loved it!  So I read the book.  Also very good!

Dana

Ah, Wuthering Heights, yay!  I'm so glad you have it on your list, Eimi.  I love the Bronte sisters.

For my list, I have Mansfield Park, Persuasion and Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen on there, The Children of Hurin by Tolkien, John Adams by David McCullough, My Dearest Friend: Letters of Abigail and John Adams by Abigail Adams, The Last of the Mohicans ( I love the movie, which is nothing like the book but I still really want to read it), The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens...and I know there's more!

Just recently I got to cross off Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained by Milton, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte, and Bleak House by Charles Dickens

Obviously I love to read--and really enjoy the classics :love5:

Well if you like big sweeping epics, try the John Jakes version of North and South - I don't know if you remember the mini series with the late, great Patrick Swayze as one of the leads....

Paula

I remember reading some of John Jakes' books when I had my western-period. I loved the TV-series.

My list of books to read include rest of the Stephanie Meyer's Twilight -series (done the first two).

Currently I'm reading Diana Gabaldon: Lord John and Hand of Devils
"The truth is out there but the lies are inside your head." Terry Pratchett

Gabriel Lorca: "I still don't give a damn.  .

Chloe: A list of everyone you've slept with in the past eight weeks.
Lucifer: Right. You'll need a much bigger notepad.

Maze to Lucifer: I'm worried that humans are rubbing of

emma

Oooh - I love Diana Gabaldon, I just read the latest one 'A breath of Snow and Ashes'  :love9: Jamie Fraser

Eimi

Well, I'm already a third of the way done with Wuthering Heights...  Considering I have no school this week to speak of, I have a feeling I'll finish it soon.  I'm trying to decide what to read next...  Something Dickens, maybe?

I have to say, the Gutenberg Project is going to save me during Spring break!

Dana

You should read Bleak House by Dickens  :love5:

What do you think of Wuthering Heights?

emma

thanks Dana - I now have Kate Bush warbling away in my head....

Eimi

Yeah, Emma, don't you hate that? XD
Don't worry, I introduced poor Dana to the song personally, just for purely evil reasons ;)

I like Wuthering Heights so far!  The characters are complicated and far from perfect, which you know attracts me greatly!

Eimi

Well, I hope it doesn't make me cry!  I'm reading it at my desk at work...  :hiding:

Clancey

Umm... my book bucket list....

ALL OF THEM?

By the way, Emma, if you liked North and South with Patrick Swazey and you're interested at all in America's civil war, you really should see Gods and Generals.  It was a good movie.  There was also a mini-series called Gettysburg that is based on a book by the same man who wrote Gods and Generals, and Jeff Daniels reprises his role (he was great in both!).  Martin Sheen played Robert E Lee in Gettysburg and it was absolutely brilliant!  Robert Duvall played him in the movie and was good, but nothing compares to Martin Sheen ;)
