There are clocks, just not wrist watches. Technicians hall makes them. I don't like the candlemark either.

Well I'm glad there _are_ clocks in Triad.  I've either never noticed a post mentioning them or no one has ever written a clock post! lol

I'm fairly sure I've mentioned clocks in public rooms before, and we can have a nice big one in the Tavern, if you like.

Yeah, I actually believe in the Skies of Pern there was even a wrist watch that F'lessen had (though we don't consider that book canon).  But I could see an old wind-up pocket watch being owned by a Lord Holder or someone of high importance and a lot of money.  

I think probably there would be one or two clocks in common areas of a Hold or Weyr, but certainly not everyone could afford one.  If they had one, it would probably have been passed down from generation to generation, or they would have had to have paid a lot of money for one.  The problem wouldn't be technology, but more the specialization that is required to manufacture and maintain them.  Your every day technician wouldn't know how to make or fix one...  Your every day smith wouldn't be making the parts for one...  I think the cost would make it an extreme luxury item.

I actually planned for T'mahl to build a clock as part of his craft XD  Since he loves working with tiny gears and springs and all those things that would go into making one.  But it would take him forever I think...

Larstad is building a clock so he can graduate to Sr Journeyman. I think it's pretty much a given that there are clocks in Pern, since you can't navagate a ship without one. You need a clock to calculate longitude, and while it's possible that you can navagate by the stars, I'd imagine that clock technology would still be around because it's so damned useful. He's been working on it for Turns, though, and I don't see an end in sight. :P

I've always had a tough time visualizing the plumbing in Weyrs - especially the bathing pools. Where does all that nasty soapy water go? There must be seperate pools for washing and soaking, too - I'd rather not relax in someone else's soap scum! Sometimes in posts a dumbwaiter is mentioned that leads to the Weyrleaders' weyrs, and I wonder about that, too - those dumbwaiters must be 5 stories high!

My big one, though? Characters using the endearment 'Honey'. There are no bees and it's been a zillion years since anyone has ever heard of honey!! They're more likely to use 'my sweet beet' or 'sugar', IMO - it has relevance, whereas 'honey' is like calling your beloved your 'arglefendle'. It makes NO SENSE. :P

Well, honey is a common term of endearment, so even though there is no such thing on Pern, it might be known as simply a term of endearment.  That's my take on it.

I've actually done a lot of posts about bathing pools and their plumbing in other Pern clubs.  I'm pretty comfortable with the whole concept and right from Dragonflight Lessa observes the scummy water is flowing out one side of the pool.  (My issue with that pool is that it's high up in the cliff ....  Surely there'll be siphoning noises in the night and some room lower down the Weyr will be flooded?)

What I'm not comfortable with is the posts about sex in public bathing pools.  Am I the only one who thinks that's not nearly as romantic as it is revolting behaviour in a communal society?
