Any Gardeners Out There?

My husband is building me a vegetable box for mother's day and besides tomatoes, I'm not really sure what to put in it.  I was thinking about green or red peppers, maybe onions or garlic?  I'm just not sure.  Do you any of you like to garden?  What vergetables are easy to grow and go well with tomatoes?

Those lettuces you can harvest a couple of leaves at a time are wonderful.  In fact, anything with a long harvest period is good.  (As opposed to a cabbage, say; one chop and it's done!)

I tend to kill my plants... Well, except for that ivy vine that's on my porch, but I don't need to do a thing to keep that one alive. It's like a pretty weed.

Herbs.  I want a garden with lots of herbs.  I also want zucchini and yellow squash as well as tomatoes and lettuce and green beans!  Oh, and peppers.  Yum!

Lettuces that peel off?  I don't think we have those in the US, I've never heard of that.   :cyclopsani:

All you ever wanted to know.  (I just meant any of those loose leaf kinds, as opposed to a hearting lettuce.  They're great for trotting out to the garden for a tomato and a couple of leaves of lettuce for the sandwich.)

Snap peas.  Sugar Snap peas.  They make a great snack!

I've have had lettuce growing in my yard past few summers, it's nice to pick up fresh leaves for the salad and kids like to eat them directly from the bench. The snails like my lettuce too, picking them off isn't so nice. Besides lettuce I've had basilica and chives.

I always grew peppers (sweet and hot), tomatoes, and zucchini, as well as fresh cilantro and oregano.

I'm planning a balcony garden (brackets in place, planters waiting) but am planting only flowers and herbs.

Speaking of balcony gardens, has anyone tried those upside down tomato things?  Found the website:   https://www.hangingtomato.com  It looks interesting, but weird and I'd like to talk to people that have had sucess with it before I try it.
